The Búzios Field in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin Was Discovered in 2010 and, According to Petrobras, Is the Largest Oil Field in Deep Water in the World

The installed platforms (P-74, P-75, P-76, and P-77) in well 7-BUZ-10-RJS of the Búzios Field, located in the pre-salt area of the Santos Basin, recorded a record volume of oil and natural gas produced last month. Petrobras Cancels Bidding for Platform in Parque das Baleias, in Campos Basin

According to the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), around 69,600 barrels of oil equivalent (boe) per day were produced, marking the highest volume recorded by a single well in the entire historical series.

According to the Agency, in September, national production from the 273 fields in operation in Brazil reached 3.695 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, including 2.907 million barrels/day of oil and 125.255 million cubic meters of natural gas.

Rio de Janeiro was the largest contributor to the oil company’s record, with the state accounting for 2.922 million boe, of which 2.389 million barrels/day were oil and 84.793 million were cubic meters of natural gas. With 37 producers, Rio de Janeiro leads the national ranking.

About the Búzios Field of the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin

Currently, the Búzios Field, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, is the second largest producer in the country, behind only Tupi (formerly the Lula field). Altogether, the area produced 600,000 barrels/day of oil and 23.7 million m3/day of natural gas in September, through four platforms. The field is among Petrobras’ main investment focuses.

The final scope of the project includes 12 platforms, with at least four already in the contracting and construction phase, including the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, which will be the largest production unit on the Brazilian coast, with a capacity for 225,000 barrels/day of oil and 12 million m3/day of natural gas.

According to the ANP, Brazil produced a total of 2.9 million barrels/day of oil in the month, a 6% decrease compared to August, and 125.25 million m3/day of natural gas, a 5.9% decline. The total national production in September was 3.69 million BOE/day, a decrease of 6% compared to the previous month.
