Santa Catarina Begins 2026 With An Average Reduction Of 12% In Natural Gas Tariffs, Benefiting Industrial, Residential, Commercial, And Automotive Sectors.

Natural gas consumers in Santa Catarina will start 2026 paying less. The Public Services Regulatory Agency of Santa Catarina (Aresc) approved an average reduction of 12% in service tariffs, effective from January 1, 2026. The measure affects users from different segments, including industry, residences, commerce, and transport.

According to SCGás, the decision reflects a set of economic and operational factors. Among them are the appreciation of the real against the dollar, the drop in international oil prices, and internal adjustments made by the company over the past few years.

Management And External Scenario Drive Gas Price Decrease

According to the CEO of SCGás, Otmar Müller, the current environment allowed for the initiation of the next year with another significant tariff cut. He points out that the automation of the purchasing portfolio, combined with negotiations with suppliers and operational efficiency, was crucial for the achieved result.

Furthermore, the international scenario contributed directly. The reduction in Brent oil prices and favorable exchange rate variations decreased gas acquisition costs, opening space for transferring savings to consumers in Santa Catarina.

“We are concluding this year in an already positive environment, and starting from January 1, 2026, there will be an average reduction of 12% in natural gas tariffs for our consumers, already approved by Aresc. The decrease is mainly a result of the automation of our purchasing portfolio, good negotiations with our suppliers, and the operational excellence of the company, also favored by the favorable international scenario, with drops in the dollar and oil prices. This savings benefits the competitive position of users of piped gas in Santa Catarina,” said Otmar Müller, CEO.

Accumulated Gas Reduction Reaches 38% Since 2023

The new adjustment adds to previous cuts. Since 2023, the accumulated reduction in natural gas tariffs in Santa Catarina has already reached 38%. SCGás claims that the strategy is to make the fuel increasingly competitive and accessible, strengthening its presence as an energy alternative in the state.

This movement benefits not only final consumers but also productive sectors that use gas as a strategic input, especially industry and transport.

Industry And Transport Lead Reduction Percentages

The percentages of reduction vary according to the consumption profile and the segment served. In the industrial sector, the approved tariff decrease is 11.80%, which can directly impact production costs and the competitiveness of companies.

In the automotive and vehicular segment, the reduction reaches 13.31%. For fleet operators, as well as for CNG and LNG, the decline is even greater, reaching 14.20%. These percentages reinforce the role of natural gas as a more economical alternative for transport.

Commerce, Residences, And Distributed Generation Also Benefit

Commercial consumers will have a reduction of 8.96% in natural gas tariffs. In the residential segment, the decline will be 6.97%, providing relief on household expenses.

For distributed generation and use as raw material, the approved reduction is 13.52%. SCGás highlights that, in cases where the tariff is applied in a cascading manner, the final effect varies according to the volume of consumption.

Next Steps And Tariff Transparency

The company emphasizes that it will continue to work to keep natural gas competitive in Santa Catarina, monitoring both the international scenario and internal efficiency gains. The new tariff tables, detailed by segment, will be available on the SCGás website starting January 1, 2026, ensuring transparency for consumers and market agents.
