Highway Connecting Campos to Macaé Is Essential for Oil and Commodity Logistics
Macaé needs to receive more investments for the duplication of the BR-101 highway that connects the city to Campos de Goytacazes and the northern part of Rio de Janeiro. The estimate is that the works, which already have approval, will advance between June and December 2023. However, according to the duplication project, the works should cover a distance of 46 kilometers.
The BR-101 highway also connects Macaé to Casimiro de Abreu and needs to have quality and safety to ensure cargo transportation. However, this mode is considered essential by authorities for the economic activities in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro. Nevertheless, this project has already sparked numerous discussions, especially because a few years ago there was a deadlock with Arteris regarding the return of the concession. Learn more!

Arteris Returned the Concession of Some Sections of the BR-101 Due to Economic Viability Last Year
Arteris was the company that obtained the concession for 322 kilometers of the BR-101 that connects the Rio-Niterói point, passes through Macaé, and reaches Casimiro de Abreu and Campos de Goytacazes. In this sense, the contract that allowed for the execution of works was signed in 2008 and was in effect until last year, when there was a turnaround.

In 2022, Arteris announced the amicable return of the concession due to the economic infeasibility of fulfilling all the clauses agreed upon in the contract. Thus, last year there were several meetings for a new bidding process for the administration of the highway. Therefore, the new forecast for execution and completion of the work is set for 2024.
Welberth Rezende, Mayor of Macaé, Was in Brasília in February to Speed Up the Process of Completion of the Works
The Mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende, went to Brasília to discuss some essential issues for the “National Capital of Oil.” During the visit in January, the mayor met with Senator Romario Faria, who has been advocating for the interests of Macaé, both in his previous term and the current one after re-election.
Additionally, the mayor went to the Civil House Ministry and met with the National Secretary of Federative Affairs, Congressman Andre Ceciliano. Both the senator and the congressman were born in Rio de Janeiro and are highly engaged in issues related to the development of the state and the generation of new jobs and more security for the people of Rio.
BR-101 Received Million-Dollar Investment and Will Bring More Safety, Speed, and Development to the North of Rio de Janeiro
The duplication of the BR-101 received an investment of over R$523 million. The construction and completion of the works on the BR-101 will ensure that Macaé consolidates the more than R$70 billion in investments received from the private sector. Furthermore, the duplication of this section allows people to travel up to 30% faster due to the quality of the new asphalt and the route that permits speeds of up to 100 km/h.
The sections that have already been duplicated have been responsible for reducing fatalities during the journey. Additionally, the Federal Highway Police has also intensified its efforts to ensure the safety of the highway and enforce speed control. However, the completion of the duplication will facilitate the transportation of oil and other commodities from Macaé and neighboring cities with much more safety.
