ANTAQ Granted Authorization to Implement a New Port Project Near the Oil Basins in Macaé
The residents of Macaé and Rio de Janeiro can celebrate the new and latest authorization for the construction of the TEPOR Port in Macaé. After all, the National Waterway Transportation Agency (ANTAQ) issued a declaration allowing the progress of the project known as the Private Use Terminal (TUP). However, this important achievement will benefit the logistics of oil production from the Campos and Santos Basins.
The construction of this port project, which has been in progress for some time, will bring more job opportunities to the region and expand logistical capacity. Moreover, it is expected that the works will begin later in 2023 and be completed within the next few years. However, this was only made possible thanks to the authorization and a billion-dollar investment. Read on to learn more!

But why is this declaration so important for the start of the project? Because it represents the final stage of the legalization process of an enterprise. In other words, this authorization proves to potential investors that the project is within the legal parameters of the country. Additionally, it also confirms that the project has fulfilled the environmental licensing stages, making it executable.
TEPOR Project Received a Billion-Dollar Investment to Expand Oil Logistics in Macaé and Is the Result of Ambitious Goals for the City
The TEPOR Project is highly ambitious and has generated great optimism in the national oil market, as it involves an expansion that will make Brazil even more significant on the global stage. However, after this authorization was granted by ANTAQ, new contracts are being signed, and investments for the start of construction have already exceeded R$10 billion.
According to Macaé’s Secretary of Economic Development, Rodrigo Vianna, the construction of this new port marks the beginning of a cycle of prosperity and job generation within Macaé. Thus, what can be expected in the coming years is a unique structure that will attract investors from all over the world.
With TEPOR and the UPGN, Macaé Is Set to Become Brazil’s Largest Natural Gas Hub
The association between the TEPOR project and the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), already installed in the city, is set to be the largest natural gas hub in Brazil. Both already have all necessary licenses and should see their construction begin early this year.
Thus, Macaé aims not only to continue being a reference in national oil but also seeks to become an important “Energy City,” according to Vianna. Proof of this is that the municipality is increasingly investing in technologies aimed at the energy transition.
The Infrastructure of the New Port Will Allow It to Meet the Demand of the National Offshore Oil Market
Experts point out that the extensive infrastructure of this new port will meet national offshore demand, due to its significant logistical operating capacity. Furthermore, TEPOR will feature storage for companies engaged in activities in both the Campos and Santos Basins.
In this way, Macaé gains even more national prominence as a meeting point for various large companies operating in the oil sector. After all, Macaé is already known as the “National Capital of Oil,” and this reputation is well-deserved. This major construction emerges to reinforce the city’s importance in the national and even global context. And let new investments come!
