The City of Caeté, in Minas Gerais, Aims to Significantly Take Advantage of the Socioeconomic Benefits of the Apollo Project, a Vale Venture Focused on Iron Ore, and Anticipates High Employment and CFEM Revenue in the Coming Years.

The mining scenario in Caeté, a municipality in Minas Gerais, has increasingly optimistic future projections this Friday, (07/08). This is because the city hall expects that, with the installation of the Apollo Project by Vale, the iron ore mining plant can contribute to the collection of the Financial Compensation Tax for Mineral Exploration (CFEM) and ensure great job opportunities for the local residents.

The Apollo Project Will Be Essential for the Socioeconomic Development of the City of Caeté as Vale Will Leverage Iron Ore Profits in the Region

Vale’s new bet for the state of Minas Gerais, the Apollo Project, is also the future of mining in the city of Caeté and will bring great benefits to the region. The venture will be installed in an area of 1,368 hectares and will feature a mine and plant responsible for producing about 14 million tons of iron ore per year, a new milestone for the Caeté region.

The Apollo Project was first presented in 2009 and has since undergone a series of adjustments to arrive at the current venture. The main change adopted by Vale in the iron ore production venture is to avoid the use of water in the ore processing, thus eliminating the need for dams, like those responsible for the tragedies in Mariana and Brumadinho, to ensure greater safety across the entire production chain.

Additionally, Vale has been contributing to the socioeconomic development of the Caeté region with the Apollo Project, having invested a total of R$ 5 million in the Elderly Funds (FI) and Child and Adolescent Funds (FIA) of the municipality for the physical construction of a service unit for the target audience.

Moreover, the company intends to continue with investments for improvements in the region, and all contributions go through the State Department of Environment and Sustainable Development of Minas Gerais (Semad) before being applied to the works.

Iron Ore Venture Will Be Essential for CFEM Revenue and Job Creation in the Caeté Region

In addition to the investments that Vale has been making in the very infrastructure of the Caeté region, the Apollo Project will also significantly contribute to the collection of CFEM by the city hall. Currently, the municipality receives R$ 50,000 from the mining activity in tax collection, but Vale’s and the city hall’s forecasts project that this figure will reach a total of R$ 8 million with the venture.

Furthermore, the number of jobs generated will also be essential for the region, as Caeté currently suffers from low employment rates. Thus, the president of the Caeté Chamber of Shopkeepers (CDL Caeté), Elloy Monteiro, emphasized: “It is a very great hope that the people of Caeté place in this project to ensure that commerce and industry thrive with the creation of jobs, and that the residents of Caeté are able to remain here,” highlighting the project’s relevance to employment in the region.

In this way, both the collection of CFEM and the job opportunities that will be generated will contribute to greater monetary circulation in the region, boosting economic growth and ensuring that mining activities in Caeté become one of the main focuses of companies in the state.
