Petrobras and Bolivia Discuss Partnerships in the Hydrocarbon and Renewable Energy Sector During the Mercosur Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Jean Paul Prates Reinforces the Importance of These Alliances for Petrobras.
With Brazil’s leadership since July of this year, the meeting of the Mercosur, held in Rio de Janeiro, addressed trade agreements, such as that with Singapore, as well as the ratification of Bolivia’s Accession Protocol to the bloc.
The creation of the bloc occurred in 1991, with the purpose of promoting integration among the countries in the region and establishing trade, political, and diplomatic partnerships to boost investments. Mercosur consists of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
This is the third time that Jean Paul Prates has met with the Bolivian government in 2023. In August, the president of Petrobras had the second meeting with Bolivia’s president, Luis Arce, to discuss potential partnerships and projects during the Amazon Summit, which took place in Belém, Pará.

The first meeting occurred in May and focused on the future of gas and oil exploration in the region. The officials participated in the first meeting of leaders from South American countries, which was held by the federal government at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília.
In addition, possible joint projects in the areas of hydrocarbons, gas, fertilizers, and renewable energies were discussed. It is believed that these alliances could boost exploration and production of natural resources in the region.

The President of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, and the Minister of Hydrocarbons of Bolivia, Franklin Molina Ortiz, met on Thursday (07) to discuss possible partnerships and joint projects in the sectors of gas, fertilizers, renewable energies, and exploration & production (E&P), during the Mercosur summit in Rio de Janeiro.
“The meeting was very productive, as it is a continuation of previous meetings with the Bolivian government to discuss sectors important to Petrobras, to Brazil, and to all of South America, such as the gas sector and the energy transition. Bolivia can become a strategic partner,” stated President Jean Paul Prates, highlighting the importance of the partnership. **These alliances can benefit both parties and strengthen the position of Petrobras in the Latin American market.**
