Old Refinery Project in Sergipe:
The state government of Sergipe announced in 2014, amid great fanfare, that Costa Global would build a small refinery in Camópolis with a budget of 120 million reais and a daily yield of around 5 thousand barrels. In a meticulously attended ceremony, then-governor Jackson Barreto (MDB) celebrated the project with an estimated operational revenue of 480 million reais.
Paulo Roberto Costa, former Petrobras director and owner of the new refinery that was to be built, said, “We will produce gasoline and diesel oil, and the project should generate 250 jobs, with 50 direct jobs during the refinery’s operational phase.”

However, just days after the announcement, Operation Car Wash broke out, where Paulo Roberto Costa was one of the first to be arrested by the Federal Police. Since then, there has been no mention of the refinery that will be installed in Sergipe.
Noxis Energy intends to obtain the installation license this year and begin land clearing in the area.
New Refineries May Emerge in the National Scenario:
This year, Brazil’s refinery sector may feature several companies that will stand out in the market. This shift may be influenced by the divestments of state-owned Petrobras and also by the advancement of projects built from scratch, aimed at meeting local market demands.
Executives in the area say that finishing the licensing this year and managing to close the financial equation of the projects, even in times of economic downturn – despite their small scale, will require billions of reais.
