The New News For The Offshore Wind Energy And Hydrogen Sector Are Encouraging For The Country, As EDF Renewables Plans To Invest In Projects For The Session. The Company Is Focused On Increasing Brazilian Renewable Energy Field.

This Thursday, (07/07), the French company EDF Renewables announced that it plans hybrid proposals for offshore wind energy and hydrogen in Brazil. The company claimed that it is very interested in the strategies for the country and expects to announce offshore renewable energy projects in the Brazilian market soon, putting the country on a competitive level.

EDF Renewables Partners With Oil And Gas Industries

The French company EDF Renewables points out that it plans to announce offshore wind energy projects in Brazil soon. However, the expectation for the operations of the ventures to begin is in ten years, only. Nevertheless, the company states that it is confident and very interested in making it happen.

The emerging business manager of the French company, Sylvain Jouhanneau, stated that the company’s first steps were to conduct studies along the entire Brazilian coast to examine the potential sites available for the installation of wind energy parks. The manager also confirms that now is the time to seek new partnerships to exchange the projects.

“We are talking to different actors to find complementary skills,” said Sylvain. According to him, partnerships with companies already operating in the offshore oil and gas sector, especially, are likely to happen. “The offshore oil and gas experience in Brazil is a very strong point (…) It does seem like a good strategy to combine these skills,” he concluded.

Internationally, the EDF Renewables group plans to achieve 3 GW in electrolyzer capacity by 2030, which includes the production of green hydrogen, derived from renewable energy, and pink hydrogen, originating from nuclear energy. The company bets on Brazil for the project to materialize, but still has no expected date for the investments to begin.

With Partnership, Brazil Can Produce Competitive Hydrogen

According to the company manager, Jouhanneau, Brazil has a great opportunity to become the world leader in hydrogen production. However, for that, the country needs to make decisions today and make good choices to facilitate offshore expansion and open the doors to renewable hydrogen, he emphasized.

Additionally, Jouhanneau also assesses that, besides offshore wind energy, onshore solar and wind – renewable energies that are already safe and competitive in the country – the costs of Brazilian green hydrogen could be reduced, since electricity accounts for about 80% of green hydrogen production, H2V.

“This would facilitate the offering of solutions to optimize these sources and supply the electrolyzers competitively, given that electricity represents a very high cost (…) Brazilian green hydrogen could have a very competitive price for export to Europe, the United States, Africa, and even Asia,” stated Sylvain.

Understand A Bit About EDF Renewables

EDF Renewables is a leading global company in renewable energy, with a gross installed capacity of 15.6GW. The company is particularly focused on wind energy (onshore and offshore) and photovoltaic solar power; furthermore, the company also operates in other segments, such as batteries, for example.

In Brazil, the company has been operating since 2015 in the development, construction, and operation of wind and photovoltaic solar energy projects. The company plans to increase its area of operation in the country, offering renewable energy solutions and hydrogen production, so that customers achieve their goals with competitiveness and sustainability.
