The Ministry of Education (MEC) has launched a free course in Education and Technology, aimed at Basic Education teachers. With a total of 180 hours, the free course is conducted in a virtual environment and is divided into five modules. Each module addresses different aspects of using educational technologies in teaching, providing teachers with tools to innovate in their pedagogical practices.
Course Structure of MEC
The free course consists of five self-instructional modules, meaning there are no tutors present to guide participants.

In addition to theoretical content, each module includes reinforcement activities and proposals that can be directly applied in the classroom.
The modules cover topics ranging from Maker Culture, through Blended Learning and Digital Educational Resources (DERs), to the use of technologies in teaching art and support for teaching foreign languages.
Each module has a practical focus, aiming to prepare teachers to apply technologies efficiently and accessibly in their classes.
To obtain the course completion certificate, participants must meet several requirements.
The first is a minimum period of 45 days for completion, even if the content has been studied in less time.
Additionally, all assessment activities must be completed, and the minimum average for approval is 6.0.
The certificate will only be made available at the end of this minimum period and after completing all activities.
The course has a maximum period of 200 days for completion, giving participants flexibility to finish the modules according to their needs and availability.
The minimum score for each module can be achieved in several attempts, allowing participants to redo activities until reaching the required performance.
Course Content
Module 1 – Maker Culture
The first module explores Maker Culture, a movement that encourages collaborative creation and hands-on learning.
The MEC course introduces tools and methods that can be used in the classroom to engage students in hands-on activities, allowing them to learn while producing.
Module 2 – Blended Learning: Characteristics, Fundamentals, and Planning
The second module focuses on Blended Learning, a methodology that combines face-to-face and online teaching.
Participants will learn about the characteristics and theoretical foundations of this approach, in addition to exploring educational resources that favor self-directed learning.
Module 3 – Digital Educational Resources (DERs)
In the third module, the course introduces the concept of Digital Educational Resources (DERs), which include videos, websites, games, and apps.
The focus is to show how these resources can be used in the classroom to enrich students’ learning.
Module 4 – DERs for Supporting English and Spanish Teaching
The fourth module of the MEC course is specific for foreign language teachers, focusing on teaching English and Spanish.
It presents examples of DERs that can be used to support the teaching of these languages, both remotely and in person.
Module 5 – Teaching Art with Technologies
The last module covers teaching art with the support of technologies, aligned with the competencies of the National Common Curriculum Base (BNCC).
This module focuses on the four main areas of visual arts: theater, dance, music, and visual arts.
