Donald Trump’s Proposal Sets Fee of R$ 27 Million for Millionaires Who Want to Live in the USA

President Donald Trump announced an unprecedented plan on Tuesday: the sale of a “gold card” for wealthy foreigners who wish to live in the USA legally.

The document will grant the right to live and work in the United States, as well as provide a pathway to citizenship, for a fee of US$ 5 million, about R$ 27 million.

We will sell a gold card. You have a green card. This is a gold card,” Trump stated from the Oval Office. “You have a green card. This is a gold card. We will put a price on that card of around US$ 5 million and that will give you green card privileges, as well as a route to citizenship. And rich people will come to our country buying this card.

When Does the Process Start?

According to Trump, sales will begin in about two weeks. He suggested that millions of these cards could be acquired. When asked if the card would be available to Russian oligarchs, the former president was straightforward: “Yes, possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people.

Alongside Trump, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick explained that the “gold card” will replace the EB-5 program, created in 1992.

This program allows foreign investors to inject money into projects that create jobs in the USA and, in return, apply for immigration visas. “They will have to go through screening, of course,” Lutnick emphasized. “The idea is to ensure they are wonderful global citizens of world class.

The EB-5 program currently requires a minimum investment of US$ 1,050,000. In economically distressed areas, the amount is US$ 800,000.

Trump-related companies and his family have already used the EB-5 to finance large real estate ventures. During Trump’s first term, the program faced criticism from lawmakers of both parties, who claimed it had deviated from its original goals.

In 2019, the Trump administration attempted to raise the minimum investment amounts to US$ 900,000 in specific areas and US$ 1.8 million in others.

However, in 2021, a federal judge overturned the decision, stating that the acting Secretary of Homeland Security, who authorized the measure, had not been properly appointed.

The EB-5 program was renewed in 2022, under the Biden administration, with the minimum requirements adjusted to current values.
