Meeting Between Representatives of the Shipyard, FIEB, and the Government of the State of Bahia Focused on the Revitalization of the Shipyard
One of the largest shipyards in the country, owned by the Odebrecht conglomerate, may come out of hibernation and resume its activities.
A meeting held last Tuesday (07/23), between the CEO of Enseada, Maurício Almeida, representatives of the Bahia government, Secretary Walter Pinheiro (Planning) and Marcus Cavalcanti (Infrastructure), and representatives of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (Fieb) discussed partnership alternatives aimed at putting new business practices into action for the shipyard.
The vast industrial park of the Enseada Shipyard, located in Maragogipe, Bahia, with its two million square meters of area could be used as a manufacturer of wind towers, leveraging the entire potential of the northern and northeastern regions for the segment.
Other operational options for the shipyard’s docks would include using it as a terminal for liquid bulk.

The Partnership with the Government of Bahia aims to make the Enseada Shipyard an economic development agent for the state, as stated by Maurício Almeida, president of the shipyard.
“We have a huge potential to drive regional development. That was our vision when we decided to implement the most modern shipyard in Brazil,” he declared.
New Possibilities
Enseada wishes to leverage the opportunities that the 2015 crisis generated to open up new business possibilities and relies on the support of FIEB (Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia).
Secretary Walter Pinheiro stated that “Based on the explorations we conducted with some companies in Spain, wind towers and blades can be manufactured on-site, for example. Also, with the involvement of Fieb, we are seeking alternatives not only for attracting investments but also for facilitating the revival of the Shipyard, which together with Salvador and Rio de Janeiro has had over 12,000 employees. So the idea is to leverage the projects that the State of Bahia has been working on to reclaim this logistics, infrastructure, and economic activity generation axis.”
The Enseada Shipyard has the capacity to process 108,000 tons of steel per year and was a private investment of R$ 3.2 billion with the Japanese shipyard Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) as a technology partner.
