If the Reactivation of the Porto das Redes Shipyard in Sergipe is Realized, the Forecast Will Be the Creation of Up to 20 Thousand Jobs and a New Phase for the Naval Industry in the State.
The Government of Sergipe is seeking to reactivate the Porto das Redes shipyard, located in Santo Amaro das Brotas, with operations expected to start as early as January 2026. The project, developed in partnership with the company SG Reparos Navais, will involve investments exceeding R$ 80 million.
The restructuring of the space aims to meet the demands of the naval industry and generate jobs. It is estimated that, in the initial phase, one thousand direct job positions will be created, potentially reaching up to 20 thousand direct and indirect jobs in the coming years.
The proposal aims to reclaim the historical importance of the shipyard and transform it into a strategic hub for the naval sector in the Northeast, also working on the decommissioning of offshore platforms.

The German ship Bottsand splits its hull in two halves in the middle of the ocean to swallow spilled oil on the surface, separating the oil from the water inside a 790 cubic meter tank and then closing again. It is the only ship in the world factory-designed to split in half as part of normal operations, and the crew of six people who operate everything is civilian.

Reactivation of the Shipyard Involves Government, Private Initiative, and Industry Promotion
The reactivation of the Porto das Redes shipyard is the result of an arrangement between the Secretary of Economic Development (Sedetec), Codise, and SG Reparos Navais.
According to Valmor Barbosa, Secretary of Sedetec, the initiative represents more than just a historical recovery:
“We are promoting an arrangement between the public power and the private initiative to transform this historical space into a strategic hub for the naval industry in the Northeast”, he declared.
The partnership focuses on regional development, with a direct impact on the economy and income generation for the local population.
Porto das Redes: History and New Role for the Naval Industry
Constructed in the 19th century, the Porto das Redes shipyard was essential for the shipment of sugar and aguardente, in addition to facilitating the transportation of goods along the Sergipe River.
Today, the site is preparing for a new phase. With the modernization of the structure, the terminal will serve small and medium-sized vessels, house a dry dock, a naval construction area, and a fueling terminal — a novelty for the state.
This reactivation will allow qualified professionals, especially those trained in oil and gas, to have opportunities in their field without needing to migrate to other states.
Up to 20 Thousand Jobs and Structure to Boost the Naval Sector
According to Vânia Lemos, director of SG Reparos Navais, the project’s potential is enormous. “With the full functioning of the structure, this number can triple. At its maximum capacity, the venture could generate up to 20 thousand jobs,” she highlighted.
The shipyard will include a pier over 200 meters long and the capacity to operate up to ten vessels simultaneously. The first production will be of barges intended for a mining company in the South of the country.
Government Projects Industrial Hub and Incentives for New Companies
The Government of Sergipe, through Codise, is also evaluating offering tax and locational incentives through the Sergipe Industrial Development Program (PSDI).
According to the president of Codise, Ronaldo Guimarães, the shipyard could become a hub for construction and dismantling companies: “The municipality has already contacted us seeking support to attract new industries interested in the region,” he stated.
The expectation is that the area around the shipyard will transform into a strong industrial nucleus, attracting businesses and fostering economic growth.
Mayor Paulo César Oliveira celebrated the reactivation of the Porto das Redes shipyard. For him, the initiative symbolizes a new cycle of development.
“We are working with Codise to create an industrial nucleus that facilitates the installation of small and medium enterprises. This initiative will allow local labor to be valued,” he pointed out.
Former Mayor Luis Herman Mancilla Gall, known as “Chileno,” highlighted the social impact of the project: “This reactivation will directly benefit the population, providing more job opportunities and development for the entire region,” he concluded.
