Brazil recorded in 2025 the highest number of Brazilians Deported From The U.S. Since The Beginning Of The Historical Series In 2020. By Early October, 2,268 immigrants had been sent back to the country on chartered flights, mostly organized under the Trump administration.
The record was established this Wednesday (10/01/2025), when a plane with 110 deportees landed at the Confins International Airport, in Greater Belo Horizonte.
The figure already surpasses by 37% the total volume of deportations recorded in 2024. According to the Federal Police, at least 12 new flights are expected by December, reinforcing the growth trend.

Who Organizes The Flights And How They Work
Since January, 24 deportation flights have arrived in Brazil from the United States. One of them occurred during the management of Democrat Joe Biden.
The other 23 were carried out under the administration of Donald Trump, who resumed the White House on January 20, 2025.
These aircraft are chartered by the U.S. government and bring hundreds of deported Brazilians under standardized conditions.
The expulsion process is conducted by ICE (Immigration And Customs Enforcement), after the arrest and evaluation of each immigrant’s immigration status.
Why The Flights Arrive At Confins
The choice of Confins International Airport to receive the flights is not by chance. The terminal has the infrastructure to accommodate large aircraft and is located in a region with a high rate of emigration.
Cities like Governador Valadares, in Minas Gerais, concentrate a significant portion of Brazilians who attempted to live in the U.S.
Additionally, Confins offers connections to different regions of the country, facilitating the return of deportees to their cities of origin.
Reasons For Deportations
U.S. authorities justify the deportations based on four main situations: irregular entry into the U.S., violations of immigration laws, involvement in crimes, or risk to public safety.
However, according to The New York Times, the current Trump administration has expanded the powers of immigration agents.
Thus, even people who had obtained temporary protection under asylum programs created during the Biden administration have become targets of accelerated expulsions.
Growth Since The First Trump Administration
Deportations on collective flights of Brazilians resumed in October 2019, during Donald Trump’s first term.
Brazil had suspended this practice since 2006 but resumed authorizing the arrival of these aircraft after bilateral negotiations.
The previous record was recorded in 2021, when 2,188 deported Brazilians returned to the country. Now, in 2025, that figure has already been surpassed with three months remaining in the year.
