Dacia hatch remains at the center of Renault’s European strategy amid the transition to new powertrains and changes in the automotive market, with expectations of a significant update for one of the brand’s most well-known models.

Hybrid Sandero in Dacia’s strategy

The Renault Sandero was no longer sold in Brazil in 2025 but remains in line in Europe in its third generation, where it is one of the most relevant models of Dacia, a brand of the Renault Group.

The next generation of the hatch is confirmed and is expected to expand the electrification of the range, with a forecast for a hybrid version.

On the other hand, a fully electric configuration is not expected to arrive at the same time.

Information published by the European press indicates that the Sandero will remain at the center of Dacia’s strategy in the coming years.

The brand aims to offer more affordable cars than Renault models in various markets across the continent.

Within this logic, the electrification of the hatch is expected to progress gradually, without an immediate shift to an exclusively electric line.

This positioning helps explain why the manufacturer has treated the Sandero as a strategic model.

Dacia operates in a lower price segment and, therefore, adopts its own pace in the energy transition.

Instead of focusing solely on electric vehicles, the company has been betting on different powertrain solutions to meet emission requirements without straying from its market range.

New generation of Sandero and multi-energy proposal

In this scenario, the future generation of the Sandero is expected to follow the proposal referred to by the brand as “multi-energy”.

The term has been used by Dacia to refer to the coexistence of different types of powertrains in the lineup.

This includes combustion versions, hybrid systems, and later, an electric option, according to statements already made by the company’s management to the international press.

Although Dacia has not yet detailed which powertrain will be used in the new Sandero, the brand already offers a hybrid model in Europe that serves as a reference for this transition.

Since 2023, the Jogger has had a version equipped with a 1.6 gasoline engine and full hybrid system.

The setup combines a thermal engine, an electric unit, and a battery of 1.2 kWh, a solution that marks Dacia’s entry into this type of technology.

This system has already shown how the brand intends to advance in electrification without abandoning its lower cost proposal.

Still, there is no official confirmation that the Sandero will adopt exactly the same configuration as the Jogger.

So far, what is known for sure is that the next generation of the hatch is expected to have some form of hybridization, but the technical data has not yet been disclosed by the manufacturer.

At the same time, the group is also studying simpler electrification alternatives in other projects, such as mild hybrid systems.

This type of solution usually requires less complexity and can help maintain more competitive prices.

Even so, the company has not publicly confirmed whether this will be the choice for the Sandero, which prevents stating at this moment which architecture will be adopted.

Hybrid powertrain and electric version of the hatch

The continued presence of the hatch among Dacia’s central models helps to understand why the brand treats the project as a priority.

The Sandero records significant commercial performance in European markets and continues to be among the company’s best-selling cars.

Therefore, the renewal of the model is seen as an important step in the brand’s adaptation to the new regulatory and commercial demands of the European automotive sector.

Contrary to what one might assume, the total electrification of the model is not expected to occur immediately.

According to statements from Dacia’s CEO, Denis Le Vot, to the Reuters agency in January 2025, the next generation of the Sandero is expected to receive a fully electric version around the end of 2027.

This indication shows that the brand anticipates this movement, but on a timeline different from the initial launch of the new generation.

Thus, the trend is that the renewed Sandero will first arrive with options compatible with Dacia’s gradual transition strategy.

The hybrid version appears as the closest possibility in the short term, while the electric version is expected to be incorporated later.

This order follows the line adopted by the manufacturer, which has been expanding its electrified offering without abruptly abandoning conventional engines.

Future of the Sandero in Brazil and Europe

Moreover, the European context reinforces this choice.

The transition to electric vehicles has advanced, but still faces challenges related to price, infrastructure, and the pace of adoption in different markets.

For a brand focused on the entry segment, adopting hybrid systems can represent a way to meet new requirements without drastically altering the commercial positioning of the lineup.

In Brazil, the situation is different.

The Sandero was discontinued after the end of its local trajectory, and Renault reorganized the portfolio focusing on other products.

Thus, the new generation of the hatch is linked to Dacia’s European planning, and so far, there is no confirmation of the model’s return to the Brazilian market.

The new phase of the Sandero, therefore, should reflect Dacia’s attempt to update its main hatch within the current demands of the European automotive sector.
