Competing with Fiat, Toyota and Volkswagen, Renault brings a new version of the Kwid, the cheapest combustion car in Brazil

The new lineage of the Renault Kwid for 2023, presented on January 20, was considered the cheapest and most economical combustion car in Brazil. The subcompact hatch has a new look, after going through a visual change, with very different details, especially on the front. The new Renault Kwid has been bringing new incorporated equipment, in addition to improving consumption figures for both ethanol and gasoline.

New Renault Kwid 2023 is the cheapest car in Brazil

The lineage of the Renault Kwid no longer has the Life version, now being offered in only three finishing options: the Zen, for R$ 59.890, the Intense, for R$ 64.190 and the Outsider, for R$ 67.990.

Even with many changes, Renault maintained the same mechanical set, which is the 1.0 SCe three-cylinder engine, naturally aspirated – an engine that does not need an auxiliary device to increase power – and bi-fuel (powered by two types of fuel, usually gasoline and ethanol), coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Renault Kwid has a maximum power of 71 hp when it is fueled with ethanol, in addition to the torque of 10 kgfm (kilogram force times meter). Acceleration of the car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 13,2 seconds.

Kwid is the “SUV of compacts”

The improvement in fuel consumption is one of the main highlights of the new Renault lineage, which is being sold as the “SUV of compacts”. This improvement was only possible due to a new electronic control unit (ECU) and the adoption of a Start-Stop system (automatically on/off).

The Renault Kwid 2023 manages to be up to 5% more economical when compared to the line launched in 2021. In large urban centers, for example, according to data from Renault, the Kwid does 10,8 km/l fueled with ethanol, and 15,3, 2 km/l fueled with gasoline. Still on the Start-Stop system, the purpose of using this type of system is to reduce the emission of gases, such as COXNUMX.

Renault Kwid 2021 lineage

In the previous version, Renault brought 4 models of the cheapest combustion car in Brazil: Life, Zen, Intense and Outsider, unlike the 2023 line, which did not feature Life.

Currently, the models of the Kwid 2021 lineage are sold between R$ 59.890 and R$ 67.691, having attributes whose 2023 version also brought, being the same or similar. The aspirated engine has 70 hp, with a 5-speed manual transmission. Its main competitors are the Toyota Etios, Fiat Mobi and Volkswagen Up!, also from 2021.

Of the competitors, the cheapest model is currently the Fiat Mobi, sold from R$41.590, but the Renault Life version is leaving in Brazil at R$39.390, both competing fiercely for the position of cheapest car in Brazil. For those who don't know, the Kwid is Renault's 'youngest'. Launched in 2018, the Renault Kwid came to replace the Clio, which has since been retired.
