Despite many changes, Renault has maintained the same mechanical set, which is a 1.0 SCe three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine – an engine that does not require an auxiliary device to increase power – and flex-fuel (running on two types of fuel, usually gasoline and ethanol), coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Renault Kwid has a maximum power of 71 hp when running on ethanol, along with a torque of 10 kgfm (kilogram-force times meter). The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 13.2 seconds.
Kwid is the “SUV of Compacts”
The improvement in fuel consumption is one of the main highlights of the new Renault lineup, which is being marketed as the “SUV of Compacts.” This improvement was only made possible due to a new electronic control unit (ECU) and the adoption of a Start-Stop system (automatically turning on/off).
The Renault Kwid 2023 can be up to 5% more economical compared to the lineup launched in 2021. In large urban centers, for example, according to Renault data, the Kwid achieves 10.8 km/l running on ethanol and 15.3 km/l running on gasoline. Regarding the Start-Stop system, the purpose of using this system is to reduce gas emissions, such as CO2.
2021 Renault Kwid Lineup
In the previous version, Renault offered 4 models of the cheapest combustion car in Brazil: Life, Zen, Intense, and Outsider, unlike the 2023 lineup, which did not present the Life version.
Currently, the models from the 2021 Kwid lineup are sold between R$ 59,890 and R$ 67,691, with features similar to those introduced in the 2023 version. The naturally aspirated engine produces 70 hp and comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. Its main competitors are the Toyota Etios, Fiat Mobi, and Volkswagen Up!, also from 2021.
Among the competitors, the cheapest currently is the Fiat Mobi model, sold starting at R$ 41,590, while the Renault Life version is priced at R$ 39,390 in Brazil, both fiercely competing for the title of the cheapest car in Brazil. For those who don’t know, the Kwid is the ‘youngest’ model from Renault. Launched in 2018, the Renault Kwid was introduced to replace the Clio, which has been retired since then.
