Understand How the Tiggo 3X from CAOA Chery Emerged as an Affordable Bet, Was Equipped and Promising, and How It Was Phased Out in Less Than a Year in Brazil.

Launched by CAOA Chery in mid-2021, the Tiggo 3X arrived in Brazil promising to be an affordable and modern alternative in the compact SUV segment.

With a 1.0 turbo engine, CVT transmission, and a generous equipment package, the model seemed to have the momentum to gain traction among rivals like the Chevrolet Tracker and the VW Nivus.

However, less than a year later, the SUV was withdrawn from the Brazilian market.

Manufactured in Jacareí (SP), the Tiggo 3X had its production halted after the automaker’s decision to close operations at the plant to focus on hybrid and electric vehicles.

The brief life of the model here did not erase its potential. If it were still for sale, the Tiggo 3X could be a strong competitor to the newly launched Volkswagen Tera, thanks to its updated look and good value for money. Today, it survives as an interesting option in the used car market.

Style and Positioning of the Tiggo 3X — The Affordable Proposal from CAOA Chery

The Tiggo 3X was positioned by CAOA Chery as an evolution of the Tiggo 2 — with a more modern appearance and competitive pricing.

Launched in 2021, it occupied a strategic space between the Tiggo 2 and the Tiggo 5X. Its front grille hinted at the style of the brand’s more sophisticated models, such as the Tiggo 8 Pro.

Small rear lights, a darkened bar, and 16’’ diamond-cut wheels completed the youthful and appealing look.

Equipment and Engine: Surprising and Well Equipped

To compete with SUVs like the Nivus, Creta, and Kicks, the Tiggo 3X from CAOA Chery came with generous features right from the base version: multimedia center, electric steering, cruise control… and even leather seats in the Pro version.

This for just over R$100 thousand, a price that was inviting for the segment at the time.

Under the hood, it boasted a 1.0 turbo flex engine, a first for the brand in Brazil, with 102 hp and 17.1 kgfm of torque.

The transmission was a CVT with nine simulated gears, designed to balance performance and economy, with fuel consumption of up to 12.2 km/l on the highway with gasoline.

Short Life: Less Than a Year

Despite the attractive package, the Tiggo 3X had a short trajectory. Produced in Jacareí, it was launched in mid-2021 and, before even completing a year, its production was halted.

The reason? The factory would undergo deep structural changes to focus exclusively on the production of electrified vehicles in the future.

Comparison with Current Competitors

If it were on the market today, the Tiggo 3X from CAOA Chery would face direct competitors such as the Volkswagen Tera, the Fiat Pulse, and the Renault Kardian.

Its initial price, between R$100,990 and R$105,990, positioned it alongside intermediate hatchbacks and subcompact SUVs, making its proposition interesting against rivals.

Quick Table — Tiggo 3X from CAOA Chery Summary

Aspect Details
Style and Positioning Modern-looking subcompact SUV between Tiggo 2 and 5X
Equipment Multimedia center, electric steering, leather seats (Pro)
Engine and Transmission 1.0 turbo flex (102 hp); CVT with 9 simulated gears
Market Time Launched in 2021; discontinued in 2022
Reason for Interruption Factory restructuring for electrified vehicle production
Main Rivals VW Tera, Fiat Pulse, Renault Kardian

The Tiggo 3X from CAOA Chery was an example of how an automaker can launch a promising model, with efficient engineering and extensive content, but still withdraw it before it could establish itself.

Its premature end reflects the acceleration in the transition to electrified vehicles.

Even with a short life, the Tiggo 3X left a positive memory as an affordable and well-equipped option — still valued today in the used car market.
