Rubens Barrichello Faced The Futuristic Tesla Cybertruck On The Acelerados Channel. With 857 HP And Controversial Technological Innovations, The Pickup Divided Opinions. Is The R$ 1.3 Million Worth The Boldness?
The automotive universe was shaken once again by Elon Musk, now with the introduction of the Tesla Cybertruck, an electric pickup that impresses with its bold design and remarkable 857 horsepower.
Rubens Barrichello, former Formula 1 driver and known automotive enthusiast, was invited to test the “Cyber Beast” version of the model on the Acelerados program.
The result, however, brought mixed impressions about the novelty that divides opinions between fans and critics.

Cybertruck Has A Design That Reminisces Cinema And A Surprising Performance
Barrichello did not hide his surprise when describing the Cybertruck as a “cross between an F1000 and the DeLorean from ‘Back to the Future’.”
Made of stainless steel and featuring a futuristic design, the pickup presents unique aesthetic traits, placing it as one of Tesla’s most controversial creations.
For the driver, the look is worthy of a movie like Mad Max, while the interior impresses with an excess of sensors and technologies that, according to him, can interfere with the driving experience.
When taking the wheel, Barrichello highlighted that the Cybertruck weighs an impressive 3,129 kg, but still manages to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds, impressive numbers for a vehicle of this size.
Despite this, he pointed out challenges in controlling the car: “It’s strange. You can’t trust this steering wheel because it reacts based on sensors, without traditional mechanics,” he commented.
Sensors, Technology And The “Steering Wheel Challenge”
One of the most curious points of the test was the absence of a traditional mechanical steering column, replaced by systems entirely controlled by sensors.
The Cybertruck’s steering wheel automatically adapts to the vehicle’s speed, changing the steering in high and low-speed turns.
However, Barrichello stated that this technology requires a period of adaptation: “At low speed, it turns more than needed, but in fast curves, it locks up. It’s as if the steering wheel makes decisions by itself,” he said.
During the test, the feeling of driving the pickup was compared to the experience of driving a professional go-kart, much more responsive and technical than an amateur go-kart.
“It’s like that friend who always drove rental karts and suddenly takes a competition kart. The precision is completely different,” he joked.
Speed Impresses, But There Are Challenges In Curves
The Cybertruck “Cyber Beast” is equipped with three electric motors—one in the front axle and two in the rear—providing brutal acceleration.
On one of the straights of the test, Barrichello reached an impressive 172 km/h.
However, the driver warned about the behavior of the pickup in curves, especially due to the weight and height of the vehicle.
“It slips from the rear while the front spreads, all because of the weight and the high profile of the tires,” he analyzed.
Despite this, Barrichello acknowledged the efficiency of the Cybertruck in terms of power and braking, considering the size and weight of the model.
However, the steering wheel again proved to be a challenge: “It’s not mechanical. You turn a little, and the car responds too much; turn more, and it seems to decide on its own.”
Cost And Brazilian Market For The Cybertruck
Another point raised during the program was the price of the Tesla Cybertruck in Brazil.
The “Cyber Beast” version, top of the line, costs around R$ 1.3 million in the national market, while less powerful versions with all-wheel drive (AWD) are sold for approximately R$ 1 million.
For Barrichello, the high price and the peculiarities of the model may restrict its target audience to enthusiasts with a taste for technological innovations.
“It’s a car that requires patience and adaptation. On the street, it should be calm, but on the track, it’s still a challenge to understand the behavior of the steering wheel and sensors. It’s a vehicle for those who like to explore the new and aren’t bothered by a learning curve,” he stated.
Comparison With Rival Rivian R1T
During the test, the question was raised whether the Cybertruck could surpass the Rivian R1T, the current performance leader in the electric pickup segment.
The R1T, which has 847 horsepower, holds the record for the fastest lap on the testing circuit of the Acelerados program, with a time of 1:06.555. Barrichello managed to complete a lap with the Cybertruck in 1:06.0, setting a new record.
“It has impressive acceleration and a lot of power, but it demands a lot from the driver. In the curves, you need to hold on tight due to the weight and height. It’s different from anything I’ve ever tested,” he stated.
Innovation That Divides Opinions
The Tesla Cybertruck test made it clear that, while it is a milestone in terms of innovation and design, the model still raises doubts regarding driveability and adaptation to the track.
For Barrichello, it’s a car that promises a lot but may frustrate those looking for a more conventional experience.
“It’s one of those cars that, with more laps, you learn to explore better. Certainly, the Tesla Cybertruck is one of the biggest boldnesses in the automotive industry in recent years,” concluded the driver.
