Rumo Logística announced that it will allocate R$ 2 billion in 2025 for the expansion of the railway linking Rondonópolis to Lucas do Rio Verde, in Mato Grosso.
This amount is part of an investment package that could reach R$ 5 billion by 2026, according to projections released by the company.
According to Guilherme Machado, CFO of Rumo, studies are underway to consolidate this financial planning.
In total, the company is expected to invest between R$ 5.8 billion and R$ 6.5 billion in 2025, surpassing the R$ 5.5 billion spent the previous year.
This growth aims to ensure greater efficiency in railway operations and allow for greater fluidity in the Paulista Network, as well as reduce congestion at the Port of Santos (SP).
A terminal is also planned to be built in partnership with CHS in Santos, which should further increase the capacity for agricultural production flow.
Advancement in Railway Transportation
Rumo estimates transporting between 82 and 86 billion tons per kilometer of usable track (TKUs) in 2025, representing growth of at least 2% compared to the previous year.
The projected EBITDA for 2025 is between R$ 8.1 billion and R$ 8.7 billion, above the R$ 7.7 billion recorded in 2024.
Analysts from BTG Pactual indicate that the new investments are expected to lead to a price increase of approximately 4.2%.
Even with a record soybean harvest, Rumo bets on diversifying its portfolio of transported products, including cellulose, bauxite, and liquids.
The partnership with Suzano is expected to boost the volume of cellulose transported, while a new contract with CBA promises advancements in bauxite logistics.
Prospects for the Agricultural Sector
In the grain segment, Machado stated that the company maintains an optimistic view for the current soybean harvest, driven by increased productivity and planting aligned with the corn calendar.
Soymeal for 2025 is already fully commercialized, and sales of soy in natura are advancing rapidly.
Part of this soy will be traded in the spot market throughout the year, but the expectation is that the share sold this way will progressively decrease.
The same applies to corn, whose pricing for the second half of the year is already well underway.
Rumo and the Expansion of Infrastructure
In 2024, Rumo transported about 35 million tons of cargo on the Santos railway corridor, of which 32 million tons were grains.
For 2025, the goal is to increase this volume, keeping pace with the expansion of Brazilian agricultural production.
Starting in 2026, with the completion of Cofco’s investments at the Port of Santos and the works on the railway in Mato Grosso, the expectation is for an additional increase of 10 million tons in Rumo’s transport capacity.
According to Felipe Saraiva, the company’s Investor Relations director, the growth will be gradual but will have a significant impact on national logistics.
In the coming years, the new CHS terminal in Santos is expected to add extra capacity of 9 million tons of grains and 3.5 million tons of fertilizers.
Another project at terminal 39 in Santos should also increase the volume handled, consolidating the region as one of Brazil’s main logistics hubs.
With these investments, Rumo Logística aims not only to expand its capacity but also to ensure greater efficiency and predictability for Brazilian agribusiness, strengthening its position as one of the largest railway operators in the country.
