Schlumberger Announced New Plans to Install a Solar Plant at Its Macaé Unit. The Solar Energy Project Will Have 1,972 m² and Can Generate More Than 530 Thousand kWh Annually.
The Schlumberger, the largest energy services company in the world, with the aim of expanding its range of actions focused on sustainability, installed at the Integrated Operations Center of its base in Macaé (CIO), a solar plant with thousands of 395 Wp photovoltaic panels, distributed over an area of 1,972 square meters on the rooftop of the unit.
Solar Power Plant in Macaé Will Generate 530 Thousand kWh Per Year
With this initiative, Schlumberger will promote the reduction of 70,790 kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere per year, equivalent to planting 2,832 trees. The power of the solar plant in Macaé is 405.27 kWp, equivalent to 10% of the average consumption of the company’s unit.
Located in a favorable area regarding solar radiation, Schlumberger’s solar plant in Macaé is expected to generate around 530 thousand kWh per year. According to the general director of Schlumberger in Brazil, Bruno Alves, the company is seeking, through various projects, to reduce emissions and CO2 consumption in its operations.

The investment in the solar power plant in Macaé follows the model of self-production of electricity, focusing on large consumers in the free market who have one or more plants generating energy for their own business.
In the project developed by Grugeen Consulting, the choice, at this first moment, was for a smaller power generation, through GRID Zero, that is, without injecting energy into the utility’s grid, making management and installation much easier.
Schlumberger Purchases Renewable Energy
The investment in the solar power plant in Macaé demonstrates Schlumberger’s commitment to actions related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 7, aiming to ensure access to affordable, sustainable, reliable, and renewable energy for all, which aims to expand the share of renewable energy in the global energy matrix by the next decade.
In addition to the initiatives in Macaé, Schlumberger is already purchasing renewable energy in the free market for its units in Taubaté and OneSubsea, which have contracts for 687 MWh and 176 MWh, respectively.
Other actions also focused on energy efficiency at the Macaé base include charging stations for electric bicycles and the replacement of 100% of the lighting with LED lamps. According to Bruno, in addition to mitigating the company’s carbon footprint with these solar energy actions and others, Schlumberger also seeks to position itself as a driving force for good practices aimed at energy consumption.
The company also aims to be recognized for the economic, social, and environmental impacts it generates on society through its commitment to sustainable development. Moreover, the executive states that this is just the first step for the company in the field of self-production of renewable, clean, and sustainable energy. The goal is to expand the current solar plant in Macaé with the installation of new systems in other units.
