The Port of Imbituba Will Share a Stand With the Port of São Francisco do Sul, as Both Ports Have Their Management Delegated to the State of Santa Catarina

The Port of Imbituba, managed by the public company SCPAR, will be one of the exhibitors at this year’s Logistique – Logistics, Multimodal Cargo Transportation, International Trade, Technology and Intralogistics Fair. SCPAR Port of Imbituba has been acting as the Port Authority of the port, located in the south of Santa Catarina, since 2012.

The port in Santa Catarina has been achieving excellent results this year and is starting the second semester with major infrastructure projects and the initiation of an international service for containerized cargo. This new option for the evacuation of production from the Santa Catarina industry is expected to be presented during the fair, considered one of the largest and most important sector events in Brazil. The moment will also serve to expose the market to the situation of the Port and its planned investments to expand its operational capacity.

New Container Route

The service will be operated by Santos Brasil, the concessionaire of the Imbituba Container Terminal, which has contracted with the Panamanian shipping company Corporación de Transportes Marinos (CTM), represented by the maritime agency Poseidon Container Shipping in Brazil. With this connection, the Port of Imbituba, which already operates a weekly cabotage service, is resuming an international route after four years. The last long-haul route operated between 2017 and 2019. The Panamanian shipping company’s vessel will call at Imbituba every three weeks. However, once it reaches its maximum capacity, CTM plans to add a second vessel to the route, which is expected to occur still this year. The route includes the ports of Cartagena, Colombia, Rio Haina (Dominican Republic) and Mariel (Cuba), which operate as hub ports for Central America and the Caribbean.

“It is very important for us to receive this new line in Imbituba, which has not had new international operations since 2019. This interest in Santa Catarina reinforces our decision to give prominence to the port sector,” celebrates Governor Jorginho Mello. For the Secretary of State for Ports, Airports and Railways (Spaf), Beto Martins, this is a significant step for the development of international trade in the southern region of SC.

Danilo Ramos, Commercial Director of Port Operations at Santos Brasil, points out that Imbituba offers commercial and operational advantages compared to any other port in the South Region of Brazil, providing a service with lower cost and operational time. Rafael Rodrigues, Executive Director of Poseidon Container Shipping, adds that this partnership with Santos Brasil will enable many business opportunities for exporters shipping with CTM through this port.

Investments in Infrastructure

Regarding the improvements that are being planned and executed by the Port Authority, the recovery and reinforcement work on Pier 3 began this year and will increase the berth’s capacity. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the investment of around R$ 95 million will allow the docking of vessels around 270 meters in length (LOA) and greater automation of the operation on site, with the possibility of installing a shiploader. SCPAR will also soon begin the expansion of Pier 1, with the installation of a dolphin at the end of the pier, allowing for the simultaneous docking of three vessels at two piers (Piers 1 and 2).

Leonardo Rinaldi, director of Logistique, emphasizes the importance of the presence of SCPAR Port of Imbituba at the event. “The ports managed by the State have exhibited at Logistique since 2018, which makes us very proud. Our fair is an important showcase for logistics and multimodal cargo transportation, and the participation of these ports is crucial for our visitors to prospect good business,” he says.
