Petrobras Must Pay US$ 813 Million to Seadrill for Three Rigs Operating in the Búzios Oil and Gas Field

The offshore multinational Seadrill secured a multimillion-dollar contract for another rig that will operate in the Búzios field for the Brazilian oil giant Petrobras. According to the announcement, the new contract for the West Jupiter drilling vessel is for a firm term of 1,040 days, with the expected start in December 2022. The total value of the deal is approximately US$264 million, including mobilization revenue and additional services.

This new contract will make the West Jupiter a sixth-generation ultra-deepwater drilling vessel built in 2014 by Samsung Heavy Industries, the third Seadrill rig working for Petrobras in the Búzios field.

“Petrobras is a valued long-term client of Seadrill, and signing a third contract with them this quarter is proof of our strong partnership and commitment to the Brazilian market,” said Stuart Jackson, CEO of Seadrill.

“Seadrill is focused on growing its fleet in strategic basins where we see high growth potential, like Brazil, where we are now the largest international drilling contractor,” he added.

For Just These Three Rigs That Are Set to Operate in Búzios, Petrobras Is Set to Pay US$ 813 Million to Seadrill

As for the other two drilling vessels that will work in the Búzios field for Petrobras, their contracts were awarded at the end of November.

In other words, Petrobras awarded contracts to the West Carina and West Tellus rigs. The total contract value for these two rigs was about US$ 549 million, including mobilization revenue and additional services.

Both contracts are on a fixed-term basis of three years, and the two rigs are expected to start operating for Petrobras in September 2022. For just these three rigs that are set to operate in Búzios, Petrobras is set to pay US$ 813 million to Seadrill.

Just a few days after the contracts for the West Carina and West Tellus were awarded, Seadrill announced it secured two more deals, this time for work in the Gulf of Mexico.

The first agreement was awarded by Eni for the semisubmersible Sevan Louisiana for a firm well. The other was for the West Neptune drilling vessel, which will continue its work with LLOG, which exercised a US$ 10 million option.
