With a Shortage of Skilled Labor, Wind Power Sector Seeks Professionals to Work in Renewable Energy in Ceará
The state of Ceará has great potential to produce renewable energy, placing it in a prominent position in Brazil’s energy market. Consequently, Ceará has attracted significant investments in the renewable energy sector, such as offshore wind farms, which are increasingly in need of skilled labor.
Ceará ranks third among the states with the highest installed wind power capacity in the country, with approximately 2,496.94 MW, totaling 97 plants and around 1,121 wind turbines. In first place is Rio Grande do Norte with about 6,435.63 MW, followed by Bahia with around 5,572.95 MW of capacity.
Skilled Labor
Work in the wind energy sector requires technical skills, such as the ability to work at heights, given that wind towers start at a height of 80 meters, and offshore towers generating wind renewable energy can reach up to 220 meters.

Spanish Company Trains Professionals in Renewable Energy in Ceará
The Spanish company Airbox, operating in Ceará since 2019, specializes in training professionals seeking to work in industrial climbing, a sector that has gradually increased with the growth of the wind renewable energy sector, which greatly needs skilled labor. As stated by Henrique Fairbanks, administrative director of Airbox in Ceará, “The area is experiencing exponential growth.”
“Many of the employees who come with the goal of getting trained in the field are already pre-hired by companies, being sent to complete their training and able to start working as soon as they are properly qualified,” adds Henrique.
Furthermore, for the director, the rising demand for training and skills development to work in the wind renewable energy sector indicates the sector’s ascent. Courses such as Basic Safety Training (BST), which is recommended for GWO (Global Wind Organization) Certification, are required for the labor force in the wind industry.
“It is an important certification, used worldwide, that standardizes the work of any collaborator who has access to the wind farm. It is a course that requires good physical preparation. The biggest challenge is overcoming the fear of heights,” says Henrique.
The company Airbox also has an area of about 1,200 m2 dedicated to training professionals who wish to work in the offshore wind renewable energy sector in Ceará. In the training area, professionals are trained in constructions that mimic wind power towers, confined spaces, and other components.
“We have the necessary certifications and an indoor training center to train people, create opportunities, and contribute to the development of skilled labor in the state of Ceará,” emphasizes the company’s director.
Operations of Airbox
In addition to training professionals, contributing to the labor force in Ceará, Airbox also provides rental, sales, and maintenance of protective masks, portable gas detectors for project development and installation of lifeline systems, and also works with fire brigade preparation.
For the wind energy sector, Airbox offers treatment and painting services for wind towers, structural and aesthetic repairs, cleaning, and inspection of wind turbine components and blades in the field.
