The government of Ceará already has 20 projects for the Green Hydrogen Hub and it is estimated that another 4 contracts will be signed with other companies, making a total of 24 companies involved in the project.

The Government of Ceará is very close to expanding a little more the network of companies willing to invest in the green hydrogen hub. According to the secretary of economic development and work of Ceará, Maia Júnior, if all negotiations with companies are confirmed, Ceará may have 24 companies investing in the new green hydrogen hub.

According to Maia Júnior, they are talking to one of the companies to sign the contracts, considering that there is a protocol phase, after a pre-contract phase, and only then does it enter development and they will be able to develop the projects by calling engineering companies so that the board studies are detailed.

Maia adds that there are 20 companies interested in the hydrogen hub, with 18 already signed and 2 to sign and 4 more negotiating, so it is possible that the Government of Ceará could reach 24 companies. Thus, the state of Ceará will have an impressive portfolio compared to other states.

The statements were made during the seminar "Two years of the plan to resume economic and behavioral activities" by the Government of Ceará, held last Thursday (23), in the auditorium of the Secretariat of Finance (Sefaz). However, there is still not much information about the origin of these companies, however, it was already announced, a few weeks ago, that the Headquarters had begun dealings with companies in Japan and the United States.

Elections could impact the state's hydrogen hub

The economic development secretary also pointed out that this year's election period has made companies lose interest in investing in the state of Ceará, considering, mainly, long-term contributions.

The list includes green hydrogen plants, power generation plants, offshore wind energy and refineries. According to Maia, the attraction continues and big companies are being received every day.

The investments, in refineries, offshore plants, green hydrogen, are so huge that they require 4 or 5 years of preparation. Big plants like these, just to start operations without anything happening, R$ 100 million are spent, just to put the chips on the table.

We prepared a list of the various companies that have already signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government, check it out:

Understand how Green Hydrogen is produced

Hydrogen is a universal, light and very reactive fuel obtained through a chemical process called electrolysis. This method uses electrical energy to separate hydrogen from oxygen in water.

In this way, if the energy for the production of the fuel comes from renewable sources, then it is possible to produce it without emitting any carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this way, this way of obtaining green hydrogen would save the 830 million tons of CO₂ per year that originate when this gas is produced by fossil fuels.

Replacing the world's Gray Hydrogen would mean an additional 3 renewable TWh annually, similar to current electricity demand in Europe. However, there are some unknowns about the viability of the fuel due to its high production cost. Doubts like these will disappear as the planet decarbonizes.
