With the objective of developing an integrated model in electric energy in Brazil, Shell Brasil will have a new structure in Commercialization and Generation of renewable energy, in line with its global vision of delivering more energy and in a cleaner way. The move comes as Shell announces the loss of up to 9.000 jobs as part of a restructuring process to streamline its oil business.

Shell Brasil's business strategy in Commercialization and New Energies will include the generation and storage of renewable energies and natural gas, commercialization and optimization, and sales to final consumers of integrated energy solutions with the Shell brand.
The renewable energy and natural gas generation and storage business will be led by Shell Brasil's Director of New Energies, Guilherme Perdigão Nascimento. Gabriela Oliveira continues to be responsible for the development of renewable energy generation projects.

The new structure, already in operation, is the result of the new leadership team in Shell's New Energy area for the Americas, which aims to deliver the best energy solutions to its customers and integrate the company's activities into the energy business. electric.
“The energy transition brings significant changes to the needs of our consumers. And we need to be in tune with this evolution, in line with the trends of increasing electrification and decarbonization of the economy. This integrated model gives our customers in the country access to the diversity of products and services, the scale and the presence that Shell has in the global energy market”, said the president of Shell Brasil, André Araujo.
In Brazil, an example of this integrated model is the Marlim Azul thermoelectric plant, a joint venture between Shell Brasil (29,9%), Pátria Investimentos (50,1%) and Mitsubishi Power System (20%). Under construction, the plant will have an installed capacity of 565,5MW and will be the first to use pre-salt natural gas. In terms of renewable energies, Shell Brasil has already requested a Request for Granting for the installation of solar photovoltaic plants in Minas Gerais.
Shell must accelerate its investments in low-carbon technologies, according to its CEO Ben van Beurden.
In an interview on the company's website, the executive said that the oil giant's current investments are “not enough” and “everything needs to be accelerated”. He said: “Across all our businesses, our low carbon investments will increase significantly over time.
“In a company the size of Shell, even a strong growth rate can be hard to notice, but we are accelerating.
“In offshore wind, we have participated in bids for project construction.
“We've made inroads as solar power developers.
“And when it comes to hydrogen, it is still a very small market, but we are absolutely leaders when it comes to hydrogen for transport and we are active in other areas as well.”
