Planning To Complete The Energy Transition To Renewable Sources, Shell Declared That It Plans To Explore Until The Last Drop Of Oil In Brazil And Finish Its Exploration Here
Having been present in Brazil for 110 years, Shell declared that it intends to explore on its platforms “until the last drop of oil” in Brazilian territory, in addition to planning to complete the energy transition to renewable sources, according to the Broadcast website.
To finalize this company’s planning, Shell’s president in Brazil, Cristiano Pinto da Costa, aims to expedite licenses for investments in oil and gas exploration platforms, as well as accelerate the process of the regulatory framework for offshore wind energy.
According to the president of Shell, Brazil is a priority country for the oil company. In charge of Shell since August 2022, Pinto da Costa has an 18-year career at the company, having even worked at its headquarters in London before returning to Brazil in 2018.

According to the executive: “Shell continues to invest heavily in the fields where it operates (in Brazil), in addition to new production units. E&P (exploration and production) is still and will continue to be the company’s flagship in Brazil, but we are taking concrete steps to open new business fronts, in line with the group’s strategy of already preparing for the energy transition”.
Shell’s Platform Vessels
Today, Shell has 14 platform vessels in operation and another 3 planned to be activated in the future. The plan is to have 20 oil platform units by the end of the decade, declares the president of Shell.
Shell is currently the largest private oil producer in Brazil, with an average production of 400,000 barrels per day. There was a record of 448,000 barrels per day in 2022, on October 9. The oil company has not missed a single auction in Brazil since 1999, the year of the oil and gas exploration bids.
On the list of 32 countries where Shell produces oil, in addition to Brazil, are Brunei, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Oman, and Malaysia.
According to the assessment of the president of Shell: “When there is a concentration of the number of countries, the percentage per country will go up. So, proportionally, it is likely that this will happen”.
Shell’s Oil Platforms in the Future
According to Pinto da Costa, Shell’s focus is to continue exploring in its Campos and Santos basin platforms, where it already has drilling marked.
According to him: “Within Brazil, there is still exploratory potential in Campos and Santos, but the country will have to start looking in other basins because it is becoming clear to everyone that the potential in Santos and Campos is reaching its limit.”
