Black Friday 2025 Should Accelerate Mass Hiring in Brazilian Online Retail, Focusing on Logistics, Distribution Centers, and Last-Mile Operations to Handle the Sales Surge Expected at the End of November.

Black Friday 2025 is driving an estimated wave of 267,000 temporary jobs in the last quarter, driven by platforms like Shopee, Amazon, and Mercado Livre, which have expanded the network of distribution centers, hubs, and collection points to cater to both 11.11 and the Christmas period, in a scenario of increased competition and consumers willing to spend more.

Online retail projects a revenue of R$ 13.34 billion on Black Friday 2025, an increase of 14.7% from the previous year, which requires larger teams, extra shifts, and operational reinforcement to meet deadlines and delivery quality. Major marketplaces have already confirmed the opening of thousands of positions in distribution centers, goods checking, order picking, and inventory control, positions that do not require prior experience and can serve as a gateway to permanent hiring.

Industry projections indicate that around 267,000 positions will be opened this quarter in commerce and services related to e-commerce, with a strong concentration in logistics. Shopee, Amazon, and Mercado Livre are at the forefront, but Brazilian companies in physical retail with significant digital operations are also strengthening their workforce, such as Americanas and Magazine Luiza.

Why E-Commerce Is Hiring So Much for Black Friday 2025

Black Friday 2025 is no longer an isolated event. It is connected to a promotional calendar that starts on 11.11 and continues until Christmas.

This chain of promotional dates means that platforms maintain a high operating pace for several consecutive weeks, without breaks to reorganize stock. The higher the volume of orders, the greater the need for labor to receive, sort, pack, and dispatch.

Another factor is the competition for fast delivery. Platforms that can deliver the same day or the next convert more sales. To sustain this differential, companies have expanded distribution centers and logistics hubs in major regions, especially Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, where the highest volume of orders is concentrated.

More facilities mean more people to operate equipment, control the entry and exit of products, and maintain turnover.

Where the Jobs Are and Who Leads the Movement

Mercado Livre leads the hiring offensive, with around 20,000 job openings for the period, primarily to strengthen distribution centers and ensure the efficiency of its own delivery network. The strategy is to maintain the shopping experience at a high level even with the abrupt increase in orders.

Amazon plans to hire 13,000 temporary workers for Black Friday and Christmas, nearly double the previous year, in line with the expansion of its distribution center network in the country, which has reached 250 units. Of the total, 8,700 positions are concentrated between Rio and São Paulo.

These roles include inventory control, order checking, goods picking, invoice issuance, and equipment maintenance, in many cases with no prior experience required.

Shopee announced 10,000 temporary and permanent positions distributed across 14 distribution centers and around 200 logistics hubs that will operate during the three major sales dates.

The company reported that its processing capacity has more than doubled compared to November 2024 and that rapid delivery already reaches over 75 cities, which requires additional human resources to manage the volume. In other words, even with automation, the human factor remains indispensable.

Role of Brazilian Retailers

In addition to international giants, major Brazilian groups are also making moves. Americanas has opened 700 temporary positions to reinforce distribution centers, with opportunities for logistics operators, auditors, assistants, and e-commerce delivery drivers, as well as 4,300 positions for physical stores.

Magazine Luiza is expected to hire 3,000 temporary workers, 18% more than last year, primarily for goods handling and checking.

However, the sector faces a scenario of historically low unemployment, making it more difficult to find professionals to work immediately.

To overcome the challenge, companies are offering bonuses and prizes, including trips, as a way to attract and retain temporary workers during the peak demand period. In a full employment environment, those who want to hire must make the positions more appealing.

Temporary Job as a Gateway

For those seeking employment, Black Friday 2025 presents a concrete opportunity for entry into the market. Companies like Magalu and Amazon report that historically, between 25% and 30% of temporary workers end up being hired permanently or remain in talent pools for future opportunities.

In other words, fixed-term contracts can turn into permanent employment if performance is above average.

Companies also highlight that temporary workers receive training in technologies and logistics processes used by the largest players in Brazilian e-commerce.

This increases employability even after the season ends, as professionals become proficient in sorting routines, tracking, system operations, and rapid delivery standards adopted by the digital market.

Management and retail experts point out that the expansion of temporary jobs in e-commerce signals a maturation of the sector.

The opening of new distribution centers and the consolidation of digital consumption indicate that workforce reinforcement during promotional dates will likely continue in the coming years. Even with automation and the use of artificial intelligence, the physical operation of receiving and dispatching still depends on people.

With e-commerce gaining share in year-end purchases and consumers becoming increasingly demanding regarding delivery times and quality, the trend is for Black Friday and Christmas to continue serving as “stress tests” for logistics.

Companies that can get through 2025 without delays and service drops will strengthen their competitive position in the Brazilian market.
