Composed of 96 Siemens Gamesa Turbines, Saudi Arabia Launches the Largest Wind Farm in the Middle East Capable of Providing Power to Up to 70,000 Homes
The largest wind farm in the Middle East and the first in Saudi Arabia, Dumat Al Jandal, has successfully connected to the grid and started producing carbon-free energy, reported renewable energy company Masdar last Saturday. The 400-megawatt (MW) park is located in the Al Jouf province and was developed by a consortium led by Masdar and EDF Renewables. The project consists of 99 wind turbines, 94 of which are from Siemens Gamesa, each with a capacity of 4.2 MW.
The construction of the park began in September 2019, and the assembly of the wind turbines is nearing completion. Once finished, Dumat Al Jandal will be able to power up to 70,000 homes in Saudi Arabia, avoiding the emission of 988,000 tons of CO² per year. Check out the video below
