Work on the Bioceânica Bridge, a key initiative to strengthen trade between Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile, has reached an important milestone with 45% of its construction completed. This intercontinental project promises to significantly boost trade and logistics in South America.
Construction of the Bioceanic Bridge, which connects Brazil to Paraguay over the Paraguay River, is progressing quickly. This bridge, part of a larger route that connects four South American countries, is a 1.294 meter long cable-stayed structure, making it one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the region.
Details of the construction of the Bioceânico Bridge
The bridge has a cable-stayed section of 630 meters with a free span of 350 meters in the center, facilitating the navigability of the Paraguay River. Its construction incorporates modern technologies and innovative design, aiming not only at logistical efficiency, but also at aesthetics and environmental integration.
To date, 45% of the work has been completed, with delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. progress includes the completion of key pillars and the installation of prestressed spar beams, crucial to the bridge's structure.

Economic and logistical impact of the Bioceanic Route
The bioceanic route is strategic for the economic development of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. For Brazil, it will facilitate exports from the Central-West region, while Paraguay, without direct access to the ocean, will benefit enormously from this logistics corridor. Argentina and Chile will also see significant improvements in trade and port activity.
The project, with an estimated cost of 85 million dollars, is financed by Itaipu Binational on the Paraguayan side, reflecting the commitment to advancing regional infrastructure.
Additional developments and future plans
In addition to the bridge, additional works are being carried out in both countries. In Paraguay, the last section of the bioceanic route is planned to be paved. In Brazil, work is underway to access the bridge in Porto Murtinho, including the construction of customs and improvements to transport routes.
With the completion of the bridge and associated works, a significant increase is expected in trade efficiency and economic integration between South American countries. This project not only strengthens bilateral relations, but also promotes sustainable economic growth in the region.
