What makes the product, which generates solar energy, different from other solar panels on roofs on the market, such as those from Tesla, for example, is that the system integrates solar technology directly into traditional roofing processes and materials.

According to GAF Energy, the tiles are produced at the company's facilities, which are located in San Jose, in the US state of California. The new panels are designed to withstand winds of up to 210 km/h. According to GAF Energy President Martin DeBono, solar rooftops are the future of clean energy, and Timberline Solar is the innovation that will get everyone there.

According to the CEOs of Standard Industries, the company's parent company, David Millstone and David Winter, realizing our vision of an innovative mass-market solar rooftop has been GAF Energy's mission since it was launched nearly 3 years ago. What the team has achieved is extraordinary, the CEOs said.

New solar roof is first to be recognized in two designations

The Timberline Solar project achieved UL 7103 certification, which authorizes GAF Energy to install the system on residential rooftops as both a solar energy product and a roofing product, making it the first to be recognized in both designations.

In addition, GAF Energy worked closely with Sandia National Laboratories, a US Department of Energy research and development laboratory, to verify the strength, readiness and overall market durability of the product.

Tesla announces its solar roof tiles with a lifespan of up to 30 years

Tesla's new solar tile could revolutionize the market, due to its very low price, which can be compared to that of common tiles, and can last up to 30 years. The manufacturing of the product for roofs with solar panels should have started 4 years ago, but it had to be postponed so that all quality objectives could be guaranteed.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants the product to last a minimum of 30 years without the need for replacement, plus a cost that matches a common roof. The value of the solar energy tile was also announced four years ago, through a publication, where the brand had already started the ordering phase.

Despite the production delay, when factoring in the labor to install and remove ordinary tiles and the material, Tesla's total tile cost would come down to a price of $42 per 0,09 square meters.
