Brazilian Petroserv and Italian ENI Signed Letter of Intent Last Week for the Chartering of the Catarina Rig
The semi-submersible rig Catarina, owned by Brazilian drilling company Petroserv, was contracted by the Italian oil company Eni to execute a development campaign for the Merakes field in Indonesia.
The contract stipulates that the rig will be chartered for a period of two years, and it is speculated that the daily rate is around US$ 220,000/day.
Executives from both companies hope that the contract signing will take place within a maximum of ten days and that work at the Merakes gas field will begin in July.

Catarina History
In May 2018, the semi-submersible Catarina began an intervention campaign for Shell in Brazil at the Bijupirá-Salema fields and the Parque das Conchas, in the Campos Basin, and upon completing this activity, it will be transported to Indonesia via dry-tow, and for this to be possible, Petroserv will need to remove its propellers.
The semi-submersible Catarina is capable of operating in a water depth of 3,000 meters and was built by Petroserv at risk, as the initial intention was to secure an operating contract with Petrobras in Brazil.
Once this contract with Eni is confirmed, it will be the rig’s third campaign; the equipment was completed at the end of 2012 and the following year it attended a contract with Cobalt to operate for three years abroad.
After the end of the campaign in 2016, Catarina remained without a contract for about two years in Las Palmas, Spain, until being contracted by Shell in Brazil.
With this contract in Indonesia, Petroserv will have two semi-submersible drilling rigs operating abroad, with long-term contracts.
Since 2018, the rig Louisiana has been executing a three-year campaign on the East Coast of India for ONGC.
Petroserv has three more drilling rigs: the Atlantic Zephyr, a moored unit that has been abandoning wells in the Tubarão Azul field for Dommo, the drillship Carolina, which had its contract terminated by the Brazilian oil company, and the semi-submersible Victoria, contracted by Petrobras until 2019.
