Elon Musk’s Starlink, the company that offers high-speed satellite internet, announced a drastic reduction in prices in Brazil and promises to make quality connection more accessible even in the most isolated corners of the country. The new plan costs only US$ 10 per month, with a 10 GB high-speed data allowance and an additional fee if the user exceeds this limit.

It’s an important leap for millions of Brazilians living in areas where traditional internet has not yet arrived — and a bold move to increase the company’s customer base in Brazil.

The novelty is the limited usage plan: the customer only pays for the data they consume. For US$ 10 per month, they are entitled to 10 GB of browsing at full speed. After that, they can continue using the service but will pay for additional GB. Ideal for those who don’t need a lot of data and want to save without giving up stability.

This flexibility is key to catering to everyone from small rural producers to residents of urban areas with limited infrastructure.

Equipment Also Became More Accessible

In addition to the plan, Elon Musk’s Starlink also revised the prices of the equipment. The Starlink Mini Kit, more compact and portable, saw a significant price reduction. The Standard Kit, aimed at more intensive residential use, still costs US$ 349 but can be purchased in installments with cheaper shipping.

For those who already have the equipment, the change is even better: migration to the new plan is free, with no activation fee or device exchange.

In May 2023, the company had already lowered prices to attract more users. At that time, the monthly fee dropped from R$ 230 to R$ 184, and the equipment price was discounted by 50%, going from R$ 2,000 to R$ 1,000. Now, with the US$ 10 plan and cheaper kits, Starlink enters accelerated expansion mode in Brazilian territory.

Unlike traditional operators, Elon Musk’s Starlink does not rely on cables, towers, or fiber optics. The connection comes from a constellation of over 5,000 satellites in low orbit, allowing the signal to reach forested areas, rural zones, mountainous regions, and even boats and moving vehicles.

The service is already used in over 60 countries and is being adopted even by governments to bring internet to remote schools and areas without coverage.

And the Future?

The company has already announced plans to launch new satellites with greater capacity, in addition to expanding mobile services with direct coverage on smartphones, in partnership with manufacturers such as Samsung and Huawei.

In Brazil, the expectation is that the new model will boost the use of Starlink in farms, isolated communities, rural schools, remote tourist spots, and even by truck drivers and digital nomads.
