Discover Which Smartphones Compatible with Starlink Will Have Free Access to Satellite Internet Starting July 31, 2025. Learn How Elon Musk and Starlink’s Free Technology Will Revolutionize Mobile Connectivity, Bringing Fast and Reliable Internet to Remote Locations
Starting July 31, 2025, Starlink, Elon Musk’s company, will start offering free satellite internet to a specific list of compatible smartphones. This marks the beginning of an unprecedented service that does not require antennas, apps, or additional devices: just have your phone in the coverage area to connect directly to Starlink’s satellites. In the initial phase, the service will allow sending text messages, emergency calls, and location sharing — all without relying on traditional mobile networks. The feature will be available in both the United States, through T-Mobile, and in Brazil and other countries where Starlink already operates commercially.
Smartphones Compatible with Starlink: See the Complete List
Starlink has revealed which smartphone models will be compatible with the free satellite connectivity service.
The majority of the devices are mid-range and premium, with support for 5G and recent system updates. The main models include:
-
After decades of failed attempts, Brazil is once again looking to space with an orbital rocket measuring 12 meters, weighing 12 tons, costing R$ 189 million, and scheduled for launch in 2026, in a new race to finally achieve autonomous access to orbit.
-
The Earth will plunge into a few minutes of darkness in broad daylight in August 2026, when a total solar eclipse transforms the sky into one of the most impressive astronomical phenomena in recent years.
-
How the terraforming of Mars can transform the planet: artificial aerosols can increase the temperature by up to 35°C in 15 years, creating conditions for liquid water.
-
Scientists drilled nearly 8,000 meters into the ocean floor above the fault that caused the 2011 tsunami in Japan and discovered that a layer of clay 130 million years old was responsible for making the wave much worse than any model had predicted.

In Brazil, the rollout will be gradual, but will follow the same schedule as the American counterpart. That is, users of these models will be able to experience the connection to the Starlink network for free as early as the end of July.
How Does the Free Starlink Connection Work on Smartphones?
The service will operate automatically: when leaving a traditional mobile coverage area and entering a remote zone, the enabled smartphone will automatically connect to the Starlink satellite network.
A satellite symbol and the identification of T-Mobile/Starlink will be displayed in the status bar, indicating that satellite internet is active.
Initially, it will not be possible to browse the internet or make voice calls. The free functionalities will include:
- Sending and receiving SMS messages.
- Location sharing.
- Emergency calls and alerts (such as 911 in the US or 190 in Brazil).
The expectation is that by the end of 2025, features such as mobile data, use of apps (like WhatsApp and Google Maps), and VoIP calls will be gradually added.
Partnership Between T-Mobile and Elon Musk Brings Free Starlink to End Consumers
The offering of Free Starlink for smartphones was made possible thanks to the partnership between American carrier T-Mobile and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
The idea is to eliminate “coverage gaps” in the United States and, eventually, worldwide. The goal is simple: to allow anyone, even in areas without mobile networks, to have access to basic communication functions.
During the tests conducted in 2024 and 2025, the service demonstrated the ability to send messages even in deserts, trails, forest regions, and even in the middle of the ocean. The initial coverage will be national in the US, with future expansion to other countries, including Brazil.
Satellite Internet Could Change the Concept of Connectivity
The advancement of satellite internet promises to transform the way we connect. Unlike traditional cellular tower systems, the Starlink connection uses low-Earth orbit satellites to establish a direct signal with smartphones. This means that rural areas, mountainous regions, conservation areas, and remote locations will finally have some level of connectivity, without the need for local physical infrastructure.
By July 2025, SpaceX will have launched thousands of Starlink satellites — including hundreds of the V2 Mini generation — which offer up to four times the capacity per unit and significantly expand global coverage.
The technology uses mid-band frequencies and reaches speeds of up to 4 Mbps, sufficient for messaging and real-time location.
What Will Be Free and What Could Be Charged in the Future?
During the initial phase, starting on July 31, Starlink will maintain the free messaging service, both for T-Mobile users and customers of other carriers participating in the beta program. In Brazil, access will also be free for smartphones compatible with Starlink.
However, as more features are added, such as mobile data and VoIP calls, there is an expectation of a monthly charge between US$ 10 and US$ 15 for users who are not on T-Mobile’s premium plans. The pricing policy in Brazil will still be announced, but the trend is that it follows the American model.
Smartphones Compatible with Starlink Do Not Require Antennas or Accessories
One of the major differentiators of the technology developed by Elon Musk is that smartphones do not need any additional accessories to access the Starlink network. There is no need to install antennas, apps, or external modules. Compatible devices already come with the necessary chips and sensors to connect automatically to SpaceX’s satellites, as long as they are updated with the latest firmware.
This aspect is crucial for the democratization of connectivity: you just need to have a smartphone from the list and be in a covered area to use the function, even without traditional network access.
Emergency Connectivity Will Be the Main Immediate Benefit
While many are interested in the possibility of using internet in areas without signal, Starlink’s initial focus is on emergency connectivity.
Natural disaster situations, accidents in remote areas, or loss of signal can be mitigated with the use of the satellite network. Users will be able to call emergency services, send coordinates, and maintain basic contact even without nearby cellular towers.
This differentiator positions Starlink as an important alternative in countries with low coverage, hard-to-reach regions, and areas affected by climatic or social instability. In Brazil, indigenous communities, rural areas, and border regions could quickly benefit from this functionality.
