Even Established Brands Face Difficulties in Selling Certain Models. Discover Five SUVs That Don’t Sell as Expected, Despite Their Qualities, and Understand the Reasons Behind the Low Numbers.
The automotive market is competitive, and not always a good car is synonymous with success. There are several SUVs that don’t sell well, even being full of technology, comfort, and performance. These models end up becoming a headache for manufacturers, piling up in lots and generating losses, even belonging to brands that are highly desired by Brazilians.
We analyzed the most recent sales data from Fenabrave (National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution) and selected five clear examples of this situation. These are vehicles that, for different reasons — high price, strong internal competition or niche positioning — simply haven’t caught the consumer’s interest. Check out the following to see which ones they are.
1. Ford Bronco Sport
The Ford Bronco Sport is a medium SUV with a unique proposal: a robust design inspired by retro aesthetics and a strong off-road vocation. It stands out from the crowd with its round headlights and the name “BRONCO” prominently displayed on the grille. Inside, the finishing is of high quality, and the list of features is generous, including a premium sound system from Bang & Olufsen and the “G.O.A.T. Modes” (Go Over Any Type of Terrain Modes).

Farmer forgets barbed wire in the pickup truck and destroys Ford Fusion at car wash.
The problem? Its high price and niche positioning keep it away from the general public. The engine is the powerful 2.0 Turbo EcoBoost with 253 hp and 38.7 kgfm of torque, with 4×4 traction, but its adventurous appeal competes with more urban and cheaper SUVs. Even being superior in off-road capability, most consumers do not seek this trait.
- Sales in June 2025: Only 75 units.
2. Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace R-Line

The VW Tiguan has always been one of the most desired and sophisticated SUVs in Brazil. In its new R-Line version, it impresses with its design featuring Full LED IQ.Light headlights, a tech-savvy interior with a digital dashboard, and the acclaimed VW Play multimedia system. Additionally, it offers space for seven occupants, a significant differentiator.
However, the 2024 update brought a major controversy: the 2.0 turbo engine was toned down to 186 hp (down from 230 hp in the R-Line version), and it lost the all-wheel drive 4Motion. This “simplification” of the project, combined with a price around R$ 280 thousand, made many fans turn up their noses. The result is one of the SUVs that don’t sell as before, despite its qualities.
- Sales in June 2025: Only 158 units.
3. Kia Sportage MHEV
The Kia Sportage features one of the boldest and most futuristic designs in the category. The interior supports this modernity, with two integrated 12.3-inch curved screens, impeccable finishing, and a top-notch equipment list. It is undoubtedly one of the most complete medium SUVs on the market.
Its main obstacle is the mechanical set and the competition. It uses a 48V mild hybrid (MHEV) system in the 1.6 Turbo engine with 180 hp, which does not offer the same fuel economy or the ability to run in electric mode like pure or plug-in hybrids. For its price, it competes directly with models such as the GWM Haval H6 and the BYD Song Plus, which offer more hybrid technology for a similar or even lower price.
- Sales in June 2025: Only 68 units.
4. Honda CR-V Advanced Hybrid

A reference in comfort and reliability, the Honda CR-V has arrived with its new generation featuring a purely hybrid proposal and a very high price. The SUV is spacious, well-finished, and comes with a cutting-edge safety and technology package, including Honda SENSING. The hybrid system, with a combined power of 207 hp, ensures excellent performance and exemplary fuel efficiency.
What prevents its success is the price. Costing more than R$ 350 thousand, it positions itself in a premium brand territory, where consumers have many other options. Honda itself seems to make little marketing effort for the model, which has disappeared from advertising campaigns and has become a rare sight on the streets.
- Sales in June 2025: Only 79 units.
5. BYD Yuan Plus
The BYD Yuan Plus is a modern electric SUV, featuring a bold design and a futuristic, well-built interior. Its electric motor delivers 204 hp and 31.6 kgfm of torque, providing quick acceleration, and the list of features is quite complete, highlighting the brand’s famous rotating multimedia center.
Despite its qualities, it suffers from internal competition. Its sibling, the BYD Song Plus, a plug-in hybrid, offers greater total autonomy (combining electricity and gasoline), is cheaper, and fits better in the reality of Brazil’s charging infrastructure. As a result, the Yuan Plus ends up overshadowed and becomes one of the SUVs that don’t sell at the same pace as other models from the brand.
- Sales in June 2025: Only 83 units.
And in your opinion, why can’t these SUVs take off in sales? Would you buy any of them? Leave your comment!

Tiro no pé? Antes só tinha prejuízo no país agora é só lucro.
