Suzano Pulp and Paper Plans to Lower Pulp Cash Cost and Bring Greater Efficiency to Operations, Along with Building a New Factory

Suzano, a company resulting from the merger between Suzano Pulp and Paper and Fibria, is one of the largest producers of eucalyptus pulp and a global reference in sustainable use of natural resources. The company announced it intends to invest around 2 billion reais in industrial modernization, which will reduce the pulp cash cost and bring greater efficiency to operations. Suzano will also invest in the construction of a new eucalyptus pulp factory in the city of Ribas do Rio Pardo, in Mato Grosso do Sul.

Investments in Modernization Projects

According to the director of industrial cellulose, engineering, and energy at Suzano, Aires Galhardo, the company plans to invest 2 billion reais in these modernization projects by 2024, which will reduce the pulp cash cost by 46 reais per ton.

Aires Galhardo mentioned the replacement of the bleaching system at the Jacareí (SP) factory with a more modern technology, reducing the consumption of chemical products. Additionally, due to reduced carbon emissions, the modernization of the equipment will allow more energy exports to have financial and environmental returns.

Construction of New Factory by Suzano Pulp and Paper in Mato Grosso do Sul

The construction of Suzano’s new eucalyptus pulp factory in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Mato Grosso do Sul, will have an installed capacity of 2.3 million tons. The scale of the new production line comes from Suzano’s projection for the global short fiber pulp market. According to Aires, the distance between the factory and the forest of the new factory is only 60 kilometers, which is quite competitive.
