Now, the work on the South Gas Terminal, located on the coast of Santa Catarina (SC), is expected to proceed to the final onshore construction processes.
The company Tenenge announced this week that it has completed one of the welding processes for the South Gas Terminal (SC) project in Babitonga Bay, Santa Catarina (SC). The extension, according to the institution, would exceed 32 km and passes through some municipalities, such as Garuva, São Francisco do Sul, and Itapoá. It is worth noting that construction will now continue with other onshore processes, such as hydrostatic tests and street cutting.
The welders responsible for connecting the sections of the gas pipeline worked with the trenches previously dug, which automated the process. Marco Aurélio Barros, engineer and responsible contract director, stated that the project had only 3.2% repairs, meaning the work was associated with the speed of the process without losing delivery quality. According to Marcos, this specific data shows that the team is well-trained and has a high capacity to handle significant constructions.
In a press conference for Click Petróleo and Gás, the engineer stated that no employee was removed due to the work accident. Throughout all processes, they use the correct PPE, Personal Protective Equipment.

How Is the Progress of the South Gas Terminal Construction?
The construction of the South Gas Terminal, also called TSG, will proceed to its final activities aimed at the onshore sector, such as hydrostatic tests and the creation of crossings over rivers and public roads. Each stage of this completion is extremely important as it will ensure that no citizen is subjected to accidents.
Paulo Jorge Fernandes, engineer and Production Manager of TGS, states that the final processes are as relevant as the initial ones because it is through them that higher delivery quality and customer satisfaction can be guaranteed.
The Project: Learn More About Its History
The South Gas Terminal (TGS) is being developed to operate as a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit. The function of this plant is to receive all liquefied natural gas production and regasify more than 165 million tons of this product daily before it is sent to Brazilian homes. Its modern system ensures a constant flow of regasification and operation 24 hours a day.
How Does the Tenenge Project Work?
Although it seems like a complex process, it is simpler than it appears: according to Tenenge, the transfer of LNG from a ship to the pipelines occurs through a ship-to-ship configuration, meaning from ship to ship. The configuration follows all national routes stipulated by the Brazilian Navy and the Directorate of Ports and Coasts (DPC).
Once received, the LNG will be stored according to the demand from the population. It is transported from its original state to Babitonga Bay, where it will cut through the municipality of Itapoá and go to Garuva. After that, the gas will be stored in a pipeline belonging to Bolivia-Brazil (GASBOL).
The Gas Terminal in Santa Catarina (SC) is located in Babitonga Bay, at least 309 meters from the coast. The study that showed the feasibility of the site indicated that it was the best location to establish. Babitonga Bay has sheltered waters that allow gas transportation to be completed in less time and with more productivity. The construction is also situated away from residences.
