The new Poti Velho bridge in Teresina has advanced to an authorized bid stage, with an anticipated length of 252 meters, three vehicle lanes, and an investment of R$ 78.5 million, connecting the area to the Grande Santa Maria da Codipi while operating alongside the existing crossing.

The City Hall of Teresina released the details on September 14. The structure, also referred to in announcements as the Pesqueirinho Bridge, will be managed by the SDU Norte.

The project aims to serve a region with approximately 70,000 residents, according to the municipal administration. This figure represents the area mentioned by the city, not a count of daily users.

The authorization allows for the bidding of the construction, but the project has not yet started

The City Hall of Teresina announcement indicates authorization for the bidding of the bridge. This is the announced administrative stage, prior to the physical execution of the new crossing over the river.

The communication does not present a completed construction contract or a confirmed start date for the services. Therefore, the disclosed dimensions and characteristics describe the planned project for contracting.

Perspective images show an engineering projection. They help visualize the proposal but should not be interpreted as photographs of a completed structure in the city.

The crossing will be 252 meters long and 12.6 meters wide

The planned length is 252 meters, with a width of 12.60 meters. These measurements were provided by the city during the presentation of the key parameters of the new bridge in the northern zone.

The length describes the crossing, while the width accounts for the space allocated for the designed uses. The announcement does not detail the measure of each lane or passage separately.

Thus, it is not possible to evenly distribute the total width among all components. The technical section should be consulted in the project and bidding documents.

Three lanes will be designated for vehicles, with passages for pedestrians and cyclists

The announced configuration includes three lanes for vehicles and walkways designated for pedestrians and cyclists. The municipal objective is to improve circulation between the two banks served.

The inclusion of pedestrians and cyclists is explicitly mentioned in the SDU Norte description. This differentiates the proposal from a crossing designed solely for automobile traffic.

However, the announcement does not provide traffic capacity estimates nor daily estimates for bicycles or pedestrians. These figures cannot be deduced solely from the number of lanes.

The new bridge will operate in a binary system with Mariano Gayoso

The plan is to operate jointly with the Mariano Gayoso Castelo Branco Bridge, which already exists. The city describes this organization as a binary system to distribute traffic flow in the region.

In this arrangement, both crossings are to be considered in a coordinated manner regarding traffic circulation. The proposal should be understood as part of a network, not as an isolated structure.

The September announcement does not itself change the current direction of the roads. Operational changes require execution and specific communication when the system is ready to function.

The connection brings Poti Velho closer to Grande Santa Maria da Codipi

The new structure is set to connect Poti Velho to Grande Santa Maria da Codipi. This is the territorial link that informs the project proposed for the North zone.

Mayor Silvio Mendes stated that the crossing meets a community demand. The expectation of alleviating traffic was presented by the administration as a justification for the investment.

This is a hoped-for benefit, still without measurement after implementation. The announcement does not specify how many minutes will be saved per trip or what the actual reduction in congestion will be.

An avenue of approximately 620 meters is planned along the Santa Maria

In addition to the bridge, the project includes a approximately 620-meter avenue on the Santa Maria side. The roadway is expected to connect the area to Avenida Poti, according to the municipality.

This access is a crucial part of the proposal as the crossing needs to integrate with existing streets. Constructing over the river and organizing the entry are complementary tasks of the project.

The mentioned extension corresponds to this avenue, not the length of the bridge. Adding these two figures without clarifying the sections would confuse different structures included in the municipal planning.

At Poti Velho, 840 meters of the alameda will be reconfigured for the new flow

On the other side, the intervention affects 840 meters of Alameda Domingos Afonso Mafrense. The city hall reports that this section will be reconfigured to accommodate the flow associated with the new passage.

The project, therefore, operates at both ends of the crossing. The circulation change depends on these accesses, not just on the completion of the structure that spans the Poti River.

The announcement does not detail stages of closures, work detours, or deadlines for each section. This information needs to be disclosed when execution and operational scheduling are defined.

The investment of R$ 78.5 million is the announced estimate for the initiative

The reported amount is R$ 78.5 million. The city hall also presented this budget within the set of authorizations released on the same day, which includes other distinct municipal projects.

This figure should not be confused with the R$ 132.4 million allocated for the planned purchase of buses. Each initiative has its own objective, even if they share the same institutional announcement.

It also does not represent full payment already made for a completed project. The announcement places the investment in the phase of auction authorization, with execution still to come.

The Norte Department of Urban Services will be responsible for the proposed execution of the project

The administration assigns the project to the Norte Department of Urban Services. Superintendent Alan Brandão highlighted the three lanes and the passage for pedestrians and cyclists in the presentation.

The stated responsibility helps identify which municipal structure will oversee the initiative. However, the announcement does not specify which construction company will be contracted to carry out the services.

This definition depends on the corresponding procedure. Until a result and contract are disclosed, there is no basis to attribute the project to a specific construction company or announce team mobilization.

The road connection opened between neighborhoods in Ponta Grossa illustrates the importance of access in daily routes, representing a different intervention from the bridge planned for Teresina.

The upcoming documents should clarify deadlines, execution, and circulation changes

The authorization establishes administrative progress and presents dimensions, location, and budget. The bidding process, contracting, and scheduling of services will be the next milestones to follow the implementation of the bridge.

For residents, it will also be relevant to know the access routes and the organization of the binary system. These elements will determine how the project may alter daily routes in the region.

The confirmed fact now is the formal intention to contract the new crossing. The goal of improved mobility remains to be verified after the construction and operation.

For those traveling through the Norte Department of Urban Services in Teresina, which access needs improvement along with the new bridge to reduce travel time?
