With a contract valid for a period of three years, the thermoelectric power plant is to import a total volume of up to 2.19 million cubic meters per day, to be transported by the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline (Gasbol), which had an agreement signed between Petrobras and the Bolivian state-owned company YPFB.
About The Araucária Thermoelectric Power Plant In Paraná
The plant was conceived and designed in the late 1990s, with the Priority Program of Thermoelectric Plants (PPT) of President Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s administration; however, in 1998 the thermoelectric gained momentum with the establishment of UEG Araucária, a company that had as partners the American El Paso, Copel, and Petrobras.
The plant is also the first electricity generation unit in Paraná to use natural gas as fuel. The new thermoelectric cost about 340 million dollars and construction began on October 10, 2000, by UEG Araucária.
The Steelmaker Gerdau Also Received Government Approval To Import Gas From Bolivia
Like the thermoelectric power plant controlled by state-owned companies Copel and Petrobras in Paraná, the company Gerdau also received approval to import Bolivian natural gas to meet the demand of three subsidiaries in Mato Grosso do Sul.
The import volume for Gerdau Aços Longos is up to 169,000 cubic meters per day. For Gerdau Aços Especiais, it is 140,000 cubic meters per day, and for Gerdau Açominas, it is up to 210,000 cubic meters per day.
