Crossing a river while driving seems like an impossible task. But not on the Shiziguan Floating Bridge, also known as the Bridge of Dreams. At 400 meters long, it allows vehicles weighing up to 2.8 tons to travel directly over the waters of the Qingjiang River in China, offering a unique and safe experience.

Innovative Technology Ensures Stability Of The Floating Bridge

Located among the mountains of Enshi in Hubei Province, the bridge is made of special high-density polyethylene floats.

Developed with German technology, these floats are filled with water, ensuring more stability and avoiding the risk of capsizing.

The bridge was inaugurated in 2016 and has since attracted visitors from all regions of China. Those passing over the structure must adhere to a strict speed limit: only 20 km/h.

If they respect this rule, drivers and pedestrians can only feel a slight sway that makes the ride even more special.

Accident Marks The History Of The Site

Despite the innovative design and safe technology, accidents can happen. In 2023, a tragedy shook the popularity of the Shiziguan Floating Bridge.

A vehicle with eight passengers collided with the protective railing and plunged into the deep waters of the Qingjiang River.

Five people died in that accident and three others survived by swimming to the shore. Footage captured by security cameras clearly showed that the vehicle caused a strong oscillation before hitting the side railing.

The exact circumstances have not yet been clarified, but initial suspicion points to a disregard for the established speed and weight limits.

After the accident, the bridge needed to be temporarily closed, but it wasn’t long before it was back in operation.

Today, the Bridge of Dreams has regained its popularity, but the episode served as an important alert regarding visitor safety.

Currently, the Shiziguan Floating Bridge remains one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in the region.

Visitors from all corners of the country continue to travel to the site to enjoy the experience of driving over the water and admire the stunning natural beauty surrounding it.

However, now more than ever, tourists are frequently reminded about the importance of following local rules, especially the established speed and weight limits.

This not only ensures individual safety but also preserves the structural integrity of the bridge and the enjoyment of the unique experience.

Driving on the Shiziguan Floating Bridge is more than just a simple crossing. It is to live, even if for a few minutes, the unique sensation of traveling directly over the waters of one of the most beautiful rivers in China.
