The new Yamaha YZF R3 Connected 2026 arrives in Brazil with important updates. The model, tested by Rodolfinho da Z, features a new aggressive design inspired by the YZF-M1, more technology with its Bluetooth connected panel, and crucial riding enhancements, such as the much-anticipated slip and assist clutch.
Engine Insight: The Power of 321cc Under the Microscope
The Yamaha YZF R3 maintains its renowned mechanical base, known for its performance. The engine is a parallel twin, with DOHC valve timing and a total of eight valves. It delivers 321 cc, generating 41.3 horsepower and 3.0 kgf.m of torque, mated to a six-speed transmission. The fuel tank has a capacity of 14.2 liters, with 3 liters of reserve, and the bike weighs 171 kg in ready-to-ride condition. The engine utilizes DiASil technology, an aluminum-silicon alloy that improves heat dissipation, along with forged aluminum pistons for greater durability and performance.

The R3’s trajectory in the market is marked by constant evolution. The first generation, which lasted from 2016 to 2019, was the beginning of it all, featuring telescopic suspension and a mixed panel. The second generation, sold between 2019 and 2025, represented a significant visual leap, with new fairings, LED headlights, and inverted front suspension. Now, the third generation, launched for 2026 and unveiled worldwide at the Milan Show in 2024, focuses on technology, refined design, and more convenience.

R3 2026 vs. Previous Generation: What Really Changed?
The third generation brought significant changes. A new reprogramming of the fuel injection resulted in a slight decrease of 0.7 horsepower, considered almost imperceptible in practice. In design, the front has been entirely redesigned and inspired by the YZF-M1, featuring a new air duct shaped like an “M”. The lighting now includes a new LED projector headlight and DRL, along with repositioned LED turn signals. The rear received new fairings with side openings and a redesigned LED taillight. For ergonomics, the rider’s seat is now shorter and narrower, while the passenger seat is 20 mm wider. The exhaust design has also been updated.
Technically, the standout features are the clutch, which is now slip and assisted as standard, and the new panel with a blackout LCD screen and Bluetooth connectivity. For greater convenience, a Type A USB port has been added to the front fairing. The Yamaha YZF R3 2026 is available in Matte Black (X Black), Pearlescent White (Tech White), and Metallic Blue (Racing Blue).
The New Connectivity with Yamaha Y-Connect
The major technological highlight is the new 100% digital panel. With the Yamaha Y-Connect app, the rider can mirror smartphone functions and access call and message notifications directly on the panel. Additionally, it’s possible to check the status of the bike’s battery and engine oil, access detailed trip and consumption logs, find the last parking location (when connected), and receive alerts for scheduled maintenance.
Points of Attention: What Could Be Better?
Despite the improvements, some points have been noted. The engine’s consumption is still considered “thirsty”, ranging between 12 and 15 km/l under heavy acceleration and potentially reaching 18 to 22 km/l during more relaxed riding. The passenger seat, although wider, still has hard foam. In usability, there is a missing button on the handlebar to navigate through the panel functions. Finally, the absence of a factory Quick Shifter is still felt in a model with this proposal.
Performance and Price
The top speed of the Yamaha YZF R3 can reach around 190 km/h. As for reference values, the FIPE table for a used model is R$ 35,100, while the suggested public price for a new one is R$ 36,990 + freight.
