Corolla Cross, Corolla Sedan, and Lexus Are Bestsellers in Brazil, and Toyota Reaches 100,000 Hybrid Vehicles Sold, Promising to Further Increase Sales with Future Versions of Yaris Cross, Hilux, SW4, and the Hybrid Hiace Van
Toyota is celebrating the sale of 100,000 hybrid vehicles in Brazil. While you might think this number only refers to the Corolla Sedan and Corolla Cross models, as they are manufactured locally, you are mistaken. The number also includes imported vehicles and those from the Lexus brand.
Rafael Chang, CEO of Toyota for Latin America and the Caribbean, stated: “This number represents, in addition to the recognition of our customers, a strategic vision and Toyota’s commitment to leading the transition to more sustainable mobility, offering solutions that positively impact the environment and society as a whole.”
Corolla Cross and Corolla Sedan Are Favorites Among Brazilians
Still, the Corolla and Corolla Cross models, which utilize flex hybrid technology and are manufactured in Brazil, accounted for the majority of sales. Last year, over 21,000 hybrid units were sold between the two brands, with 20,000 of them being Corolla and Corolla Cross models.

Manufactured at the industrial units in Indaiatuba and Sorocaba, the Corolla and Corolla Cross models continue to set the standard for hybrids in the national market and are targets for competitors, especially the Chinese brands that are entering.
Although it took a while to bring hybrids to Brazil, Toyota slowly began this movement with the Prius in 2013. Then, the flex hybrid Corolla was launched, followed by the flex hybrid Corolla Cross. So far, Toyota has been able to avoid emitting 78,000 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere.
The Market Awaits the Arrival of the Third Flex Hybrid in the Country, the New Toyota Yaris Cross
Chang adds: “Our strategy envisions that every new model manufactured in Brazil will have a flex hybrid version for the domestic market.”
The market eagerly awaits the arrival of the third flex hybrid in the country, the New Toyota Yaris Cross, which will complete the Yaris lineup. In addition to the new hatchback, we will likely see the new generation of the sedan, which has already been presented abroad.
Furthermore, the automaker should increase hybrid sales with future versions of the Hilux and SW4 equipped with the technology, as well as the hybrid Hiace van.
