Toyota Corolla Cross Rebirths With Stunning Look! SUV Will Be Updated in Europe and the USA Later This Year — And Brazil Took the Lead

Toyota confirmed that the Corolla Cross will undergo a significant visual update in Europe and the United States starting in the second half of 2025. Interestingly, the facelift to be adopted in these markets had already premiered in Brazil, more specifically in the hybrid versions of the SUV — an uncommon reversal in the brand’s strategy, which typically prioritizes the European and North American markets for global launches.

Brazil Takes the Lead in the New Global Design

The Corolla Cross is currently one of the best-selling hybrid SUVs in both the Brazilian and European markets, which reinforces its strategic relevance for the Japanese automaker. The model with the new look began circulating the streets of Brazil even before being officially announced in regions like Europe and the USA — a move that highlights the growing weight of the South American market in Toyota’s global decisions.

The adopted design follows a more refined line, featuring a honeycomb-style front grille, uniform paint, and headlights with a new finish. This visual identity is now being extended to the hybrid versions outside of Brazil, but with important differences in combustion options and sportier versions.

Differences Between the Markets: Europe, USA, and Brazil

In Europe, the biggest changes are concentrated in the GR-Sport version, aimed at the audience looking for a sportier look. The front of the new European Corolla Cross has been completely reworked, with the replacement of the translucent bar between the headlights with a piece in matte black plastic, along with a wider and squarer lower grille. The LED taillights also received an exclusive design, clearly marking the regional identity of the model.

Another technical detail that differentiates the European Corolla Cross from the Brazilian model is found in the lower part of the car: the version manufactured for the Old Continent features a transverse muffler located behind the rear axle, concealing the piece and providing a cleaner finish — something that does not occur in the version sold in Brazil.

In the United States, the approach has been somewhat more conservative. Toyota opted to maintain a look similar to the previous model in the combustion versions, adding only a plastic strip at the top of the front grille. Furthermore, the North American market will not offer the GR-Sport version, at least in this initial update.

10” Multimedia Center and Digital Dashboard Gain Space

The restyling was not limited to the exterior. Toyota also updated the interior of the Corolla Cross, adopting a new multimedia center with a 10-inch screen, as well as a d digital instrument panel, which varies between 7 and 10 inches depending on the version and the country. This update premiered in Brazil and will now be replicated in other markets.

Engines: Variations Between Continents

The engine options also change according to the country. In the USA, the Corolla Cross continues to be equipped with the 2.0 naturally aspirated engine with direct injection, generating 170 horsepower with gasoline. In Brazil, the same engine is flex, allowing it to reach up to 175 hp with ethanol.

The highlight in the United States is the more powerful hybrid system, which combines the 2.0 engine with three electric motors to deliver a total of 199 hp — well above the 122 hp offered by the Brazilian hybrid version, which utilizes a 1.8 flex engine combined with two electric motors.

In Europe, the Corolla Cross is sold exclusively as a hybrid. There are two configurations available: one with the 1.8 gasoline engine and another with the 2.0, both associated with revised batteries and electric motors. The first offers 140 hp, while the second, more powerful, delivers 197 hp — practically equivalent to the most robust configuration sold in the United States.

“The Corolla Cross is a global project, but each market has its own demands and preferences, which justifies the differences in design and engine options,” commented Koji Sato, global CEO of Toyota, in an interview with the site Autocar.

Updated Prices: Brazil, Europe, and USA

Although the official prices for the new models have not yet been announced in the European and North American markets, it is possible to get an idea based on current values. In Europe, the hybrid Corolla Cross starts at € 38,000, which represents approximately R$ 241 thousand. In the USA, the cheapest model with a combustion engine starts at US$ 25,485, around R$ 144 thousand, according to Toyota USA.

In Brazil, the Corolla Cross starts at R$ 179,190 for the XR 2.0 CVT version. The hybrid XRX Hybrid version, currently the only one in the lineup with this engine type, costs R$ 219,890, according to the table available on the official Toyota Brazil website.
