New Corolla Cross Is In The Works: The SUV Favorite Of Brazilians Promises To Arrive With A 1.5 Turbo Four-Cylinder Engine, 15% More Powerful, 8% More Efficient And With A Hybrid Version Able To Run Up To 80 Km Without Using Gasoline

The best-selling model from Toyota in Brazil is about to undergo a revolution. The Corolla Cross, which has even surpassed the traditional Corolla sedan in domestic sales, will gain a new generation in 2027. And it’s not just a facelift: the SUV arrives with deep changes in design, engine, and onboard technology, promising to further establish itself as a reference in the segment. The renewal occurs even without a change in platform, and the first projections are already attracting attention on social media.

Best-Selling SUV From Toyota In Brazil Will Have A New Look Inspired By The Prius And The Urban Cruiser EV

With 5,834 units sold only last month, the Corolla Cross positions itself as the flagship of the Japanese automaker in the country. For comparison, the Corolla sedan registered 3,040 units in the same period, according to data from Fenabrave. The success of the SUV reinforces the brand’s bet on a visual update that will follow the “hammer” identity already used in the new Prius and the electric Urban Cruiser EV, with more aggressive and modern lines.

The projections released by designer Theophilus Chin (profile @theottle on Instagram) indicate a front end with sharp headlights and a bar that crosses the entire width of the body, giving the model a sophisticated and imposing look. At the rear, the highlight is the 3D taillight set, more compact and with a square design, interconnected by a black strip that eliminates the bulky horizontal taillights of the current version.

Interior Is Expected To Feature 12.3″ Screen And Gesture Controls, But Without Giving Up Physical Buttons

Still without official images of the interior, experts predict a cabin with more connectivity and usability. The expectation is that the new Corolla Cross will adopt a multimedia center with a 12.3-inch screen, equipped with the advanced Toyota Space system, which offers gesture controls, a voice assistant, and smartphone mirroring.

Despite the modernization, the brand is not expected to abandon physical buttons, especially for functions such as air conditioning, responding to a frequent demand from consumers who prefer tactile controls instead of entirely digital interfaces. This choice seeks to balance innovation with practicality.

The Great Revolution: New Hybrid Plug-In Engine Can Travel Up To 80 Km In 100% Electric Mode

The great revolution, however, will be under the hood. The current engine will be replaced with a 1.5 turbo four-cylinder, which promises a 15% increase in power (currently up to 175 hp) and an 8% reduction in fuel consumption. This reinforces Toyota’s strategy to bet on energy efficiency without sacrificing performance.

Besides the traditional hybrid version — which is expected to gain a 32% increase in power, according to speculation — the highlight will be a new option with plug-in hybrid technology. This configuration will allow the SUV to run up to 80 km only in electric mode, ideal for urban commutes with zero emissions.

Version Power (hp) Gasoline Consumption – City (km/l) Gasoline Consumption – Highway (km/l)
Current 2.0 Flex Engine 175 hp 11.7 km/l 13.0 km/l
New 1.5 Turbo Engine (estimated) ≈201 hp (+15%) ≈12.6 km/l (+8%) ≈14.0 km/l (+8%)
Current Hybrid Version 122 hp 14.6 km/l 12.8 km/l
New Hybrid Version (estimated) ≈161 hp (+32%) Maintained or higher Maintained or higher

According to automotive industry analysts, this bet aligns with the global trend of electrification and the advance of hybrid engineering in Brazil, especially with the development of flex solutions adapted to our reality.

TNGA-C Platform Will Be Maintained, But Electronic Architecture Is Expected To Be Updated

Although the new generation of the Corolla Cross maintains the TNGA-C platform, used in several models of the brand, an update in the SUV’s electronic architecture is expected. This will allow greater integration with autonomous safety systems, such as lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

There is still no official confirmation from Toyota Brazil, but industry sources indicate that the new model will be produced at the same plant in Sorocaba (SP), focusing on both the domestic market and exporting to other countries in Latin America.

Expectation Is That The New Corolla Cross Will Be Revealed By The End Of 2026

With the debut scheduled for 2027, it is likely that the model will be officially presented to the public by the end of 2026, during some international auto show. Toyota has adopted a more reserved posture regarding technical details and timelines, which further fuels the curiosity of fans and the market.

While the automaker does not break the silence, projections and leaks continue to stir up social media. Analysts already see the future Corolla Cross as a key piece in the brand’s electrification strategy in Brazil, paving the way for cleaner and more efficient technologies without sacrificing the robustness and reliability typical of the lineup.

Toyota Advances In The Brazilian Market: Hybrid Yaris Cross Comes With A Foot In The Door Of The SUV Segment Made In Brazil

After revealing above the first details of the new Corolla Cross 2027, it is time to highlight another news that is stirring up the internet: Toyota confirms another strategic step to consolidate its leadership among SUVs in Brazil — the launch of the Yaris Cross, a compact SUV with flex hybrid engine, which premieres in July with prices starting at R$ 130 thousand.

Manufactured at the Sorocaba (SP) plant, which received R$ 1.63 billion in investments, the new SUV will be offered in two versions. The main bet is the flex hybrid system which combines a 1.5 Atkinson cycle engine with 92 hp and an electric motor of 81 hp, totaling 113 hp and an estimated urban consumption of up to 32 km/l with gasoline, as highlighted by Toyota Brazil.

For those seeking economy with a lower initial cost, there will also be a variant with a 1.5 flex naturally aspirated engine of 110 hp, with fuel consumption of up to 13 km/l, ideal for urban traffic. According to Anfavea, compact SUVs represented 40% of light vehicle sales in the country in 2024, and the Yaris Cross promises to compete strongly in this segment.

With this launch, Toyota reinforces its strategy to transform Brazil into a regional reference in the production of hybrid vehicles, expanding the already consolidated success with the Corolla and Corolla Cross.
