Toyota’s Plans for Relocation Were Announced Several Months Ago and Concerned Workers in São Bernardo with the Belief That the Productivity Center Would Be Closed.
Toyota, a company that has been in Brazil for over 60 years, stated that it is interested in moving its headquarters from the city of São Bernardo to the interior of São Paulo, where it will have access to a wider range of professionals. However, the company took the opportunity to declare, through a press conference, that it intends to keep the production center in São Bernardo open, even with the relocation. In other words, it will maintain all existing positions and create new job opportunities.
The headquarters relocation is expected to take place by November 2023, and the process involves some bureaucratic procedures regarding the change of space and the status of employees.
Public Statement from Toyota
The TV channel Brasil reported in April that the brand would close its production center and move to the interior of the state of São Paulo. When the announcement of the move was made on April 5, few details were provided during the press conference regarding how the situation would affect the employees who were already hired.

Toyota Will Create More Job Openings and Maintain Existing Ones
Toyota has stated that it intends to maintain the positions that have already been filled in São Bernardo and in cities in São Paulo such as Sorocaba. However, it plans to create additional openings in the interior. This decision was made to keep the company’s competitiveness amid a landscape of high representation in the international market.
Rafael Chang, president of Toyota do Brasil, states that the decision was made by the brand’s leaders to maintain competitiveness and develop a broad production plan. After all, the brand is seeing its exports to the outside increase significantly, especially to North America, such as the United States and Canada.
