The Project Aims to End Dependence on Ferries and Brings Hope for a New Economic Era for the Region. However, Behind This Progress, a Tragic Incident Has Raised an Alarm.
A 37-Year-Old Worker Died on Saturday (14) during the execution of the project. According to the Department of Highways (DER-PR), he fell from a crane while handling load-lifting equipment.
The Fire Department confirmed that the accident occurred around noon, and that the man did not survive the fall, even though he was wearing a helmet at the time.
According to information from the g1 portal, rescuers found the worker on the deck of the ferry used by the crane, but the impact was fatal, resulting in severe cranial trauma.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed, and the circumstances of the accident are still under investigation by the competent authorities.
In a statement, the Government of Paraná Deeply Regretted the Loss, highlighting that the worker was acting “for the dream of the people of Paraná,” referring to the importance of this bridge for the region’s development. “The State and the consortium responsible for the project will provide all support to the victim’s family,” the government said.
The Progress of Construction: Challenges and Expectations
As reported by CPG, the bridge being built is one of the largest infrastructure projects on the coast of Paraná. With a budget of R$ 386.9 million, the project aims to eliminate recurring traffic problems between Guaratuba and Matinhos, caused by dependence on ferries. Currently, ferry transport is one of the biggest obstacles for residents and tourists, especially during peak season.
According to the Department of Highways of Paraná (DER/PR), the bridge will be 1,244 meters long and will feature four traffic lanes, in addition to bike lanes and pedestrian areas. The project is expected to be completed in 2026, but delays and problems encountered so far raise doubts about the viability of this timeline.
At the moment, approximately 17% of the project has already been completed, with 14 of the 64 concrete piles installed. This means there is still much work ahead, and the tight schedule does not allow for significant margins of error.

Advances and Judicial Obstacles
In August, a lawsuit that threatened to halt the project was temporarily suspended. The action filed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) raised questions about the environmental impact of the construction, but the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF4) granted a 60-day period for the impasse to be resolved.
As a result, 46% of the total project budget has already been allocated, securing about R$ 178 million available for the project’s progress. This means that despite the obstacles, funding is secured and authorities are confident in completion within the stipulated timeframe.
The Local Impact and Residents’ Expectations
The local population is optimistic about the construction of the bridge. According to a survey by the Paraná Institute of Economic and Social Development (Ipardes), 97.9% of residents and tourists approve of the project, hoping that the construction will invigorate tourism and facilitate emergency response. Merchants and business owners also have high expectations, anticipating a significant increase in visitor traffic after the bridge is completed.
What to Expect Until 2026?
In the coming months, the construction of the Guaratuba bridge will enter crucial phases. The completion of the foundations and support piles will be essential to maintain the delivery schedule in 2026. However, the question still remains: will this massive project be completed on time and fulfill all the promises made so far? The answer lies in the future, and the population eagerly follows each new advance.
Now, the question is: are the challenges faced in the construction of the Guaratuba bridge greater than expected, or will we see a success story in Brazilian infrastructure? Share your opinion in the comments!
