Man Working Offshore for Petrobras Died on Easter Sunday, Aboard the Vessel Where He Was Accommodated, in the Campos Basin
Petrobras confirms the death of Luciano de Carvalho Pinto, 42, who was found unconscious in his cabin on the diving vessel Skandi Achiever at 5:45 PM last Sunday. Luciano was declared dead from a heart attack via videoconference mediated by nurses on board, where a doctor confirmed that the worker had died due to a sudden illness, but the family claims negligence and lack of proper care, stating that the steward was still alive when he was assisted by nurses. Petrobras denies any failure in care.
According to Sindipetro-NF, reports indicate that the worker complained of severe chest pain but was reportedly ignored. In a message circulating on WhatsApp, a woman present at Luciano’s funeral, held on Tuesday, who identifies herself as the wife of a colleague of his who also worked offshore, states that not even resuscitation techniques were applied and that the worker actually died only on Monday, which would imply that Luciano was placed in a refrigerator while still alive.

In a statement, Petrobras expressed regret over the worker’s death, stating that he was working for the subcontracted company Uniflex Group – Catering & Supply Services, which provided services for the oil company. Uniflex stated that Luciano suffered a heart attack, that there were no failures in the rescue, and that they are providing support to the family.
Sindipetro-NF reported that the man’s body was placed in a refrigerator and the vessel moved to the Port of Açu in São João da Barra, arriving on land in the early hours of Monday, April 22, when it was handed over to the Fire Department, which took it to the Campos IML.
According to information from the 5th Fire Battalion of Campos, they confirmed that they made the removal after 8:20 PM on Monday and sent the body, already deceased, to the IML.
According to the coordinator of the Health Department of the union, Alexandre Vieira, Sindipetro will demand more clarification about the case from the authorities involved and requests that workers who have information about the case contact the union.
Luciano’s social media profile on Facebook indicates that he had been employed by Uniflex since November 2017 and worked as a maritime steward, a position responsible for the arrangement and cleaning of a vessel.
