Trimble Launches Machine Guidance Module for Excavators, Facilitating Topographic Surveying and Field Control with GNSS Receiver and Field Tablet.
Trimble recently launched a new guidance module that promises to revolutionize the operation of excavators, making topographic surveying and field control much simpler and more accurate. This module utilizes advanced GNSS technologies and can be controlled via a field tablet, ensuring versatility and efficiency in various operations.
Additionally, the new guidance module includes specific features aimed at machine use, such as the machine guidance module. With this innovation, contractors can now use the same set of hardware and software both inside and outside the machine, optimizing time and work resources.
Trimble, a global technology company specializing in positioning, modeling, connectivity, and data analytics, launches the new guidance module for excavator machines for Brazilian users of the Trimble Siteworks system.

A Solution for Small Contractors
Primarily intended for small contractors and public services, the innovation is that the same equipment used for topographic surveying can now be positioned on the machine’s arm to increase accuracy and safety during excavation. This means that a contractor operating their own small excavator can measure and define projects outside the machine and then position the GNSS receiver on the equipment’s arm to perform the excavation of the trench or foundation they have accurately designed, with precision, productivity, and safety.
Control Facilitated by the Field Tablet
Using a field tablet installed inside the machine, it is possible to monitor the correct position, depth, and slope of the excavation, accurately guiding the machine and eliminating the need for stakes or grade checkers with squares or cross levels. This machine guidance module solution offers greater accuracy, enhancing the effectiveness of task execution.
Safety and Remote Execution
The construction and mining sectors are increasingly demanding greater safety and the ability to execute tasks remotely, preventing people from exposing themselves to hazardous zones. Thus, we continue to expand the compatibility of our most advanced platforms with a variety of equipment models available on the market and developing more versatile and accessible tools, such as the machine guidance module of the Trimble Siteworks system,
comments Franco Ramos, Channel Development and Technology Alliances Manager for Latin America at Trimble.
Compatibility and Updates
Current users of Trimble GNSS receivers with tilt compensation, like the current R780 model or the previous SPS986, can already use this new technology. This is accomplished through the addition of a simple-to-install machine kit and the guidance module to the controller software. This surveying system is portable and can be installed on different excavators and job sites, allowing for various tasks, such as topographic surveying and guidance of excavator machines, as well as field projects and reports.
Includes Intelligent GNSS Antenna
The Trimble Siteworks system with the machine guidance module includes the Trimble R780 intelligent GNSS antenna with tilt compensation and Trimble’s high-precision ProPoint™ positioning engine. Additionally, any field controller, whether Trimble or third-party, that supports Trimble Siteworks software is also compatible.
Availability in Brazil
In Brazil, the new module is already available through SITECH, which is the authorized distribution network for the company’s technologies in the country. For more details, visit: trimble.com/siteworksmachineguidance.
