Being the Largest Port Terminal in Brazil, Porto do Açu Is the Only One Capable of Receiving VLCC-Type Vessels
The VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) that docked at Porto do Açu this week is among the largest in the world, with a storage capacity of up to 2 million barrels of crude oil. The Oil Terminal, T-Oil, developed by Açu Petróleo is the only private Brazilian terminal capable of receiving VLCC-class ships. The operation was only possible due to an investment of R$ 400 million made last year, with dredging works that brought the nominal depth of the terminal to 25 meters.
The name of the ship is DHT Redwood and this operation refers to the current contract with Petrogal, which has a 20% stake in the North of Carcará, in the Santos Basin, acquired in the 2017 auctions. Experts indicate that Porto do Açu will now have intense movements of large vessels and there is an international outcry from oil and gas companies for operations of this type in Brazil, and the port terminal of Açu is the only one capable of meeting this demand.

The future of computers may change sooner than expected: Amazon bets on commercial quantum computing within seven years, while qubits, the Ocelot chip, AI, and scientific simulations take center stage in the new race among big techs.
Those who think that Porto do Açu only serves to dock and accommodate vessels are mistaken; it goes far beyond that. The correct term to use for this enterprise is actually “port complex”, because in addition to executing this type of operation, it will also house a thermal power plant, a gas complex, import/export of minerals and grains, as well as the metalworking factories located there. Representatives of Smart Treinamentos were there and recorded audio and videos astonished by the size and complexity of the place, check out the article here.
