Large Fire Hits Petrobras Refinery in Duque de Caxias and Brasfels Shipyard in Angra dos Reis, Both in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Firefighters Are on Site.

Sad news this Monday afternoon (15) involving the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) of Petrobras and the Brasfels Shipyard. The units are experiencing large-scale fires. With a goal of cutting 2 billion dollars in operational costs, Petrobras seeks the temporary suspension of contracts with suppliers

REDUC PETROBRAS – There is currently no information on the damages caused or whether any workers were injured. The Fire Department is on site to contain the flames.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. According to reports, the flames reached the fuel movement lines, complicating the firefighting efforts. The affected area of the plant is said to be the supply section.

Brasfels Shipyard – The fire has already been controlled by the shipyard’s firefighting team this afternoon. The causes of this incident are also under investigation.

About the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) – Petrobras

The Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc) is one of the largest in terms of refining capacity in the country. The unit is responsible for 80% of lubricants production and also handles the largest natural gas processing in Brazil.

The plant also has the largest product portfolio of Petrobras – a total of 55 products processed in 43 units.
