When it enters into commercial operation, in early 2020, UTE Porto de Sergipe I will be the largest thermoelectric plant in operation in Brazil.

On December 6th, the Porto de Sergipe I Thermoelectric Power Plant carried out the first activation of the turbine using gas, a procedure known as First Fire. Eneva makes a giant gas discovery in the Parnaíba Basin and company shares soar.

Continuing the commissioning phase, last Monday, December 16th, the first gas turbine was synchronized.

The forecast is that at the beginning of next week the nominal power will be reached, which is 343 MW. The energy generated by the first turbine will be enough to supply 1,5 million people.

When it enters into commercial operation, in early 2020, UTE Porto de Sergipe I will be the largest thermoelectric plant in operation in Brazil, with a total power of more than 1500MW, with energy generation capacity to serve 16 million people.

CELSE – Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe SA congratulated everyone involved in this step. “We congratulate everyone involved in this stage!”, said the company through a note in its official news vehicle, last Saturday, 21.

A SESSION – Centrais Elétricas de Sergipe is responsible for the implementation of the largest and most efficient natural gas thermoelectric plant in Latin America: UTE Porto Sergipe I.

The company, created in September 2015 by EBRASIL – Eletricidade do Brasil – and Golar Power (Joint-Venture between the Norwegian company Golar LNG and the American investment fund Stone Infrastructure Partners), will generate and sell electricity from generating units of gas thermoelectric power.

UTE Porto Sergipe I will enter into commercial operation in January 2020. The fuel used will be liquefied natural gas, a more effective and less polluting solution compared to diesel and coal, as it reduces gas emissions by up to 90% . The plant will have a capacity equivalent to 15% of the energy demand in the Northeast, with a capacity of 1.551 MW.

With an investment of around R$ 5 billion in state-of-the-art technology, the venture, located in the Porto de Sergipe I Thermoelectric Complex, in Barra dos Coqueiros, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Aracaju (SE), will generate 2,5 direct jobs during the works, in addition to boosting the socioeconomic development of the region.
